They're calling for some milder weather this weekend, so it's firewood time! This one had been marked but not by me. I spotted carpenter ants in it last weekend when I was working on the pine. It was in a pretty tight spot but I had a fairly clear lane through the canopy in the same direction as the lean, so I went for it. It caught the beech a little on the way down and twisted off the stump. The base landed about 4' from the stump - another example of why you want to get out of there! Overall I think it went pretty good though. Dropped, bucked, and hauled the tree in an hour. CSS time!
Nice work! I like the high stump too. I've been doing that as well to save my back, and it makes it easier to concentrate on the felling of the tree.
Sweet! We did two big ash and a big dead elm last week, the elm is going to my buddy's mill, the ash all became firewood....
You both sure do some nice work. I scrounge most of my wood. Trying to get permission from my wife's boss to get on his property. He has a lot of dead standing ash. Wife keeps telling me to be patient.
Nice work Shawn! You beat that Ash into submission! 85% of all felling accidents occur within 15 feet of the stump. Best practice would dictate a 45 degree exit to at least 15 feet from the stump. Good on ya for doing it the right way brother!
Looks like some good work there Shawn Curry What the heck is up with the roof on the house there in pic #4?! Looks like something from Whoville!
Thanks! Took care of all the C and one of the S's today too... Think I'll save the other :stacke: for the morning. That's my favorite time anyway - just me and the birds...
I got some plans to do some stacking in the morning too. Love the pictures with the new camera. Very nice work with the drop. Lost like a tall straight woods tree. Should make some good stacking firewood.
So that plus a little more from the log pile gave me two more rows to finish off my stash of ash. I wanted to top off the red pine too but I've got a birthday party for my niece.
Shawn, somehow this looks like one spot you were cutting ash last April. Are you sure you took those pictures at home?
