Well i finally got around to getting my new shed completed. Best i can figure it will hold about 8 cords of wood. Unfortunately in March, my neighbors house burned down because of an electrical fire. He had been gathering firewood in rounds for over a year or so. He came to me about 2 weeks ago and asked if i wanted the wood. Hmmmm, yep, ill be right over with the truck and splitter. He said no worries, and he loaded it up with his tractor into his dump truck and brought me 2 massive loads of rounds. Now its time to really get to work!!
Close reach and quick loading on that great lookin shed.... Free wood is good too- maybe some rain can wash that dirt off the pile.... Not bad if you don't need to resaw any.
You'll love that wood shed more and more as you use it. Good on the neighbor giving you that wood too. It all adds up.
Looks great Joe! I've been thinking about building something like that on the south side of my garage. I like having it close to the house in the wintertime. I think I see a patio - is it close enough for an early morning reload in your slippers?
Having "Dry findable wood" is not overrated Like the gutter, I need to add one to the back of mine to stop the splash zone
Yeah the gutter was from another left over project that i didnt use and as you can see, i didnt quiet have enough to finish it. But i will be doing that and downspouts later this week. But it really helps with the splashing
Ill have to resaw aboit 20 rounds but that wont be a problem with my trusty ms362. Im itching to try out the new blade and my new splitter. Gonna be a great day tomorrow. Even our two sons are looking forward to it.
That's a nice set up Joe. Not having to walk through the snow is awesome, good score on the rounds, and being delivered yet. Hope you bought the neighbor some of his favorite beverage.
Hey Joe, glad to hear your sons are buying into it. Builds great family bonds. My son is 40 and my grandson is 12. We cut wood together and my son burns wood. My grandson already knows how to tend their stove. He gets up before everyone in the family, on school days, and gets the stove going. Mom tends it while Dad is gone to work. Wood heat builds family bonds they will all remember for a lifetime. And beieng a second generation wood burner, I am proud that I have passed that on for at least 2 more generations. Chief.
I also am a second generation burner. My dad would have me up with him in the woods early before the sun was up scouting for dead trees. Then we would cut, load, split, and stack. He would laugh because he would say, this dang stuffs heats you 2 or three times before a match ever hits the wood...then he would laugh and give me the axe. He taught me what hard work was for a great payoff wgen it comes to wood heat. My sons have bought into it as well. 14 and 10 and they get excited when i pull the splitter out. We homeschool (to be honest, I really don't teach them anything out of a book, thats what the Mrs. does. I am dumb as a fence post) but they love sitting in front of the stove doing their school work and helpimg their mom keep the fire stoked up. They actually argue whos gonna get to poke the fire and load the stove. So they have bought into tgis wood thing, plus i am also showing that all the hard work pays off in the long run.
Nice shed, it's so much nicer to have it in a shed. Easier to get to and don't have to fight frozen tarps. And you can usually stack higher
