Hi guys, new guy here. Thanks for proving that I'm not the only firewood hoarder out there!

My neighbor has a low hours 036 Pro that was damaged when the previous owner let a tree fall on it. No bar, chain, or sprocket cover. Chain brake handle and holding handle also gone. Top plastic cover cracked, decomp valve bent over, fuel tank cracked, a couple cylinder fins broken off. Saw turns free and has good compression, everything else looks good. I am getting the carcass for free in trade for getting two of his other saws running.

I looked up all the parts on line and figure it will cost me about $300 to replace all of the missing / broken parts. Worth it or sell it as a parts saw?

    What say ye?

I'd look for donor saws, much cheaper.

A used 036 pro. An probably be had in the $300to400 range. Depending on condition maybe more.

Yea look for donor saws. And you can come out cheaper with after market parts. I did the same thing as you and sourced parts for a crushed saw. I have about $250 into it. I searched ebay for te cheapest sellers. Used AM when I could and used a Huztle tank handle and plastics.

I think your neighbor is getting the best end of this deal. The 036 is a classic saw, and still a great performer. But, $400 would buy you a very solid used machine with superficial cosmetic flaws and no damaged parts. The $300 you'd spend in parts would easily buy a solid runner that required no wrenching.

I would find a cheap donor saw or else part it out. I have two 036 pros that I bought used and paid in the 300.00 dollar range and they are good looking running saws. No bar or chain.

Also you have two broken fins broken on that cylinder and with everything else pretty expensive.

Paid 350 last year for an 036 pro with bar and 2 chains thrown in. No damage at all to the saw.

    The ms362 is awsome!

Gary always trying to sell a member a saw :).

Have you actually made a dent in the collection and made any progress liquidating it?

No, but I have been sidetracked recently. I have the 362, two 026's, a Dolmar 7310, an Echo CS-530, a Poulan 3450 and 3750 Tim Allen Bad Boy and a Poulan Pro 335 I need to sell.

Got any top handle saws? One of those 026s might be calling my name but not until the fall.

The only ones to sell are some older Poulan 25's. I suspect the 026's will go quickly when I list theme.
