Sounds like more fun than CS. Dealing with grumpy people all day can bring you down.

it was tiring , I aint gonna lie. "playing with fire" however is a lot of fun but challenging at the same time. best part about it though is im able to bring my experience in CS to the R&D side. one of the things I want to stress in new designs is "user friendliness" especially with pellet stoves. make em easier to maintain and clean should help with issues as most of the issues I saw in my 2 decades in customer service could be traced back to lack of maintenance.

I noticed a couple weeks ago that Fahrenheit rebranded the grill line to Grilla Grills and they have a new model out (Silverback) as well as a Komodo style charcoal grill. Glad to see they're moving ahead with new products.

The bad news (for me) is that the price has been cut in half from what it used to be. I got mine as a display model and didn't pay full retail, but I paid quite a bit more than they're selling for now. But, I saved a heck of a lot on the furnace so I still came out ahead on the pair. :)

I've had mine for three years and love it. I've cooked everything from potatoes, Mac and cheese, pizza and various things that used to walk or swim the earth.

As far as the pellets go, the only time I used non food grade pellets was when I first bought it and did the initial burn in. I used Somersets for that.

Food grade pellets are a bit hard to come by around here, but Menards recently started carrying them. I'm on my last bag of BBQ Delight pellets, so I may try a bag of the ones from Menards when I run out.

I noticed the price cut as well. That is a very intriguing price!! :)

    Thanks for your 2 cents!

So how much is a bag of food grade pellets nowadays?
Also, are you referring to the Kamado ceramic pit boss charcoal grill, like this one at Costco or a pellet grill called Kamado?

    Costco Wholesale

    Thanks,

They make 3 different grills now.

The Kong is just their version of it. Still a charcoal machine.

I've been getting pellets on amazon. I make sure I order over whatever the amount is and get free shipping because shipping is what kills the price of pellets

Sounds like a good move for Englander here Mike. Anyone that engineers and designs a mechanical device should have to work on the finished product. Automotive engineers should be at the top of this list :picard:

No experience here on a pellet grill. After researching these years ago, I went with a Kamodo and never looked back.

Yup. I have a Big Green Egg that I bought back in 2009. Bought it mid winter at a good price. From what I understand that have gone up in price since-what hasnt.....

It took a little time learning how to light it quickly but once I found the right lump charcoal for me (Royal Oak) that is all I use and can have it up to grilling temp in 5-10 minutes. I can sear a steak at over 800 degrees (as high as 1000) as well as hold a low temp for smoking anything. No electric required, no mechanical parts to maintain and fantastic grilling/smoking/baking. :grizz:

I've been wanting an Englander grill. Good to see the price coming down. Still a good chunk though.

You won't regret it, I'd recommend buying a spare igniter and splurge on the second rack...

I was gonna buy a big green egg years ago. My buddies father showed me his pellet smoker/bbq and I upgraded from my old metal charcoal smoker very soon after. Pellets are awesome for this. Amazing food and the convenience is great. There's a reason a lot of pro bbq guys have switched to pellets.

Oh and searing a steak is over rated. It's been proven that it doesn't lock in the juices.

If I'm just a backyard griller, can I handle a pellet griller? Why should I make the change?

I bought mine mainly for ease of use, my wife used to refuse to cook on gas. She would either burn or under cook. The pellet grills give great smoky flavor with the ease of use of digital control... if it were just me it would be charcoal but the mrs. Needs to use it too.
