Is it spongy? If not id burn it. If its off the ground and split, it wont "spread" or get any worse. Keeping it dry might be a little more of a challenge - Id definitely want to top cover it. Silver is kinda "shoulder wood" anyway, so a little loss in BTU output wont bother me.
There's still enough meat on the bone there to use it for SS season....... If nothing else, a nice evening campfire or two!!
I'm gonna wrap up the splitting due to the heat. But it seems to be getting worse Not spongy but sure easy to split for silver maple. Also very light. Darn it the wife is telling me it's time to grill. I'll be back.
Looks like it's been out in the weather for a long time.......they get light as a feather, and not always "punky".
At worst it looks like it might burn a little faster than optimal, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. If it's 25% now upon splitting, and partially past its prime, it should be ready at least by spring 2017, if bit ready by this fall, if kept dry and in a place it will get drier. It's definitely some sort of maple. Could be silver, or maybe Norway maple. I think I see some of each. Either way, it's about the same on the BTU scale.
This is what I got out of it. Not a lot but it all ads up. Roof is the plan for the weekend. I have the plywood just need the roofing materials. Again thanks for all the help. I thought I scrounged some fire pit wood. I have only been in the house for less than two years. So for the 3 year plan I'm way behind. Fyi I stold the idea from Mr Palletpete. Thank you sir. Nice Thor. That wood will probably burn really nice this coming fall. Great stuff for early fall when you don't want long fires so it doesn't get too hot in the house. I would not wait for 2017, I'd be burning it come September.
How much do you figure you'll burn in a normal season ? Last heating season drug on, making what started out as a light year basically a nearly normal year.
last year only about 3 cords. I was at work a lot due to workers quitting. Most of them tried to get their job back, but if you don't give a notice sorry jack. My sweet wife can keep a fire going, but still learning how to start one. Mostly due to the fact my wood that I had to buy wasn't quite seasoned as they said. I don't feel like I have enough seasoned wood for this year, but I know now who has seasoned wood if I need to buy a cord or 2.
Enerzone solution 2.3 bought it at Burlington fireplace. Sure it's not the best,but we love it. Sorry Floyd is a camera hog. He loves to lay in front of it when I'm burning too.
