I started off this fine Saturday morning with some of my dead ash trees. Shawn curry's beautiful ash trees in his pictures made me remember how many that I still have standing dead on my land. I've been putting off a few of them for a few years now. The biggest one I have is only 20" at the base but it is right beside the creek that runs through my property, addition to that its on the opposite side of the creek with no road access. image.jpeg So I decided to cut up a smaller one and took a trailer load to the processing area
image.jpeg image.jpeg I then decided to venture across the creek and take a look at a few hickory trees that the sewer company had to cut a few weeks ago. The guys told me that they would pull them across the creek for me when they get to my section of the project. The thing is, I can't wait that long :p so I busted my azz today only for the bottom sections of the two biggest ones. I rolled/carried them 100+ yards (I puked... Twice) To the creek bank loaded them into an old row boat I have and floated them to the other side, then I rolled them up the bank and into my trailer:loco:  I had a blast! And I'm gonna do it again tomorrow because this is primo btu's and I can't let them lay in that swamp till God knows when.

You sir, are a hoarder! :loco:  I happen to belong to a support group for folks like you, and I think I can be of assistance here. :handshake: That's entirely too much hickory, best thing to do is pick one or two rounds that you want to keep, and give the rest to me.

Well we've got a loaded truck, trailer, and Family car threads... Loaded barge thread coming soon? :D:salute:

You sir have a whole lot more ambition than I do! That is a lot of work and you'll appreciate the heat you get from it.

Nice work! A lot of work, but nice work. ;)

What, no helicopter to airlift the logs to your processing spot?:doh:

Yeah, I concur. Shag is the best firewood out there.

That should be ready for 17-18 burning season once split and stacked.

In reply to all of you collectively, I do indeed have a wood hoarding issue! My family, friends they all think Im a whack job, everyone except for my wife and son :D. Ok...well my wife maybe thinks I'm a little crazy, but she knows it's what I enjoy doing and doesn't really give me a hard time about it.
I would have had all of these out weeks ago, but I just have no way into that swamp via my property except through the creek ( hence the "barge"). So I finally got a chance to go over on the other side of the creek to gander and realized how many of my trees they plowed down.. They had told me just a few, I suppose 28 is just a few to them 22 of them are hickory. I've only managed to get the bottom 16' or so on the 2 largest ( 75'-85') bucked and heaved over to the other side. I still have very very much work ahead of me.

Shawn, you may drive down here to pennsyltucky anytime you would like, I'll send you back north with as much hickory as that Saturn can handle:yes: no doubt... Here's what lay ahead

You are nuts.... just like the rest of us.

You gotta post the boat in the wood haulers thread, that's rather unique.

Splitsnstacks I gotta admit that when you posted about hauling/carrying/rolling the distance you did with the chunks, and the effort involved, I had to go to your profile and check out your age!

    Carry on!

The best time to get a scrounge on is in the early morning, IMO.

I can't tell you the number of times that I am back with a truckload of wood filling up the stacks and 99lbs is just starting to wake up...looking out the window....shaking her head.

Oh he'd definitely love that! Problem is, that sounds like a lot of engineering skills that I'm simply not equipped with in the least.
yes, I'm still a 20 something, I don't always feel like it. I spend the majority of my day everyday on stilts finishing drywall and hard coat plaster work. My knees and back are near ruined already. So trust me, I'm feeling my river logging shenanigans today! Oh, and yea I get the wife looking out the window and shaking her head at me quite a bit too lol.
hot dang! Shelby from axe men has one of them! I could definitely make quick work of this mess with that hog!

    YOU....ARE...THE...MAN!!!!

There are no obstacles big enough to prevent hoarding of HICKORY. Ive been known to carry for some distances but you have me beat by a long shot. :salute:
