    All fixed, bugger getting the old one out. I think the problem was that the straps were too big? Do they stretch? The new ones were a little like a see-saw on the cups, the old ones were flat on the cups...

    as I read several pages to get caught up, I thought about it more, the u joint should fit between the ears on the yoke and not slide back and forth. This is what keeps it centered/balanced. is it all better now?

    Huh? BMW, Mercedes, and Audi are made in Germany. Yes some stuff, and some cars are made elsewhere ( US included), but not the majority.
