I bought a milk crate of various chains off of craigslist a month ago. I finally got them cleaned up and sorted out. The guy obliviously ran stihls. I ended up with about 15 3/8 .050 72 dl chains which I can use because I have 2 bars that run them. I also got 35 .325 .063 74dl chains that are dull but never sharpened. And 10 .325 .063 67dl chains in good condition. I have 3 saws that run .325 but are all husky small mount, ko95. I haven't found a single husky small bar that is 74 dl .063. I looked for adapters to run a Stihl bar but don't see any for small mount. Can I use these chains with these saws? I'll take some pics when I get home!
The number of DL needs to match your bar/sprocket combo. I think Stihl .325 bars are all 063 gauge, hence the gauge of the chains. However, I'm 99% certain that Stihl 18" .325 is 72DL - so the 74 count seems strange to me. I'd be shocked if Oregon didn't have some bar that would work though. I think the Woodland Pro chain breaker/spinner set is on sale right now, for around $100 or so. I'd offer to adjust some for you, but I don't have any tie straps for .325. But if you wanted to send some of those too, we'd be in business. Nice haul for $60! That's more chain than is on a 100' reel I think!
Kyle Mulligan Stihl .325 063 18" is 74dl. Husqvarna uses 72dl for an 18" in .325 however they are .050 in gauge. You can contact Homelite410 about an adaptor for 12.1mm to 8.2mm, but you will have to lengthen the stud slot on a Stihl bar to accomodate the adaptor. The stud slot on a Husqvarna bar is about 1/2-3/4" longer. I have a WoodlandPRO breaker/spinner set that I bought on sale for $129. You may be better off just cleaning up the 67 and 74dl loops of 325 063, and selling them off, as every other option will require more of a cash outlay.
I've looked at hundreds of bars the last week or so. Stihl.325 .063 74 dl is pretty common bar. Husqvarna uses 72 dl in .325. Have you seen any adapters for small mount husky? There was a lot of chain in there. 73 total but I tossed 8. There is a bunch of 3/8 low pro chains as well. I hope I will be able to use them all!!!
I have one for Stihl med mount (3003), to Husky large mount. That one is pretty common. I have no use for it though, if you could use it, it's yours. Stihl med -> Husky small I think is tougher though, for the reasons jon1212 mentioned. He'd know a lot more than I do. I guess I can't even remember the DL count on my own bars! Could have sworn my 20" 3/8 and 18" .325 were the same DL count. Oh well.
As I mentioned previously, contact Homelite410. He is the guy that makes the adaptors you see listed at various online stores.
I do not believe Mike makes a 3003 to k095 adapter. Well at least he did not when I asked him last year.
Ok ok I contacted him. I heard you the first time. I was typing while my wife was in the hospital so it took me an hour to write that little bit. I didn't see your post until after I posted to Mr. Curry. Thank you for the help! Thanks Shawn for the offers!!! As of right now I don't think I will take you up on them. If you use either of the .325 chain I would be more than happy to put a few in the mail for you.
Kyle, Sorry to read the word "Hospital" in any post. I have an aversion to those places……. Someone here should be able to take a bunch of the .325 063 off of your hands. If you decide to let some of the 3/8 or 3/8lp go, please let me know, as I would be interested in a small flat rate box of them.
No, 3005 is the smallest Stihl mount pattern. The way these sizes are named in casual conversation (small, large, etc) tends to get confusing. For Stihl, 3005 fits the smallest saws, 3003 covers the vast middle ground (026 through 066), and 3002 covers the uncommonly large modern saws and a few older but only sorta-big models.
Great find! I had a similar find several years back when I aquired 18 or so 25" Stihl Oilmatic full chisel chains and around 10 14" picco Stihl chains (all Stihl brand) for 75 bucks shipped. And they were all brand spanking new ....
