Let's see those bikes

I honestly thought it was brand new!

 

Only 2800 (aprox) original miles..

 

The R1200C was BMWs foray into the "cruiser" market, it's a nice bike but it had limited commercial success. Most of the dyed in the wool BMW guys hated em, kinda like the Porsche 928 never got any respect cause it is front engine and that's just not "Porsche"

 

I was really looking at a couple "FL" models of the Harley line..couldn't justify the cost (allthough I nearly did) but more importantly, with this being a small town we pretty much all know one another, I've never bought into the "Harley F#/^ing Davidson" lifestyle...Love some models of their bikes, but I bought to ride a motorcycle,,not live a lifestyle, ya' know?

 

The Sport-Tour bikes really interest me,,,just couldn't find "the one",,always liked the R1200c and the money and condition of the nime was rite,,,it was a done deal,,

 

That zook DL1k has a motor based on my TL1000S motor. Different heads, and pistons, cams, and efi, but same block. That's one of the all time great v twin motors.

 

When banging 3rd to 4th with some enthusiasm and rolling down a 2 lane hi-way for a hundred miles,,that dl1000 is a lotta' fun!!
I'm looking forward to putting some miles on this new bike. Hopefully this friday if the weather cooperates.

 

Meant no offence to those who ride HD...been around lifelong HD owners all my life, my very cool Uncle Doc owned an HD dealership when I was a little kid.. My very best and oldest pal rides a big twin, he's owned other bikes as well...he rides, and feels the same way I do,, It's the "pretenders" who discourage me,,sure they own big twins but I get the impression they own them for the "status",,and I've known most of these guys since grade school, even count several of them as good friends,,they don't really "ride",,. Parading up and down the streets thru town,,stop in the VFW or K of C and swill a beer,,stand around the parking lot in 90 degree heat just ,,,looking at the bikes.. Hell, not one of the guys my age would know how to change the points in an old Shovel,,I've tried meeting them in years past and riding, on my old Sportster, my vx1100, my brothers' dl1000,,it's always the same. Me, "Hey guys, I've mapped out about a 60 mile one way ride,,all single and small 2 lanes thru the next 3 counties to the back side of the lake, saddle up,,lets ride",,I get, "Naw, man,,it rained down there last nite and I just cleaned my bike,,,",,or "Man,,I just rode 6 miles from the house and the wind was a pain coming outta' the west",,,HUH!??! Just last summer I rode into a hog roast( I was solo) it cooled down to low 50's, an old friend from the school days was leaving his bike,,he didn't have any gear with him (we're all pals, it was safe to leave his bike),,I offered up an old sweatshirt and cheep Sterns brand rain jacket,,(that combo can be effective against cool nites and he wasn't getting my jacket.) I'm guessing he declined my offer because it wasn't stamped HD and I'm still amazed he didn't have any gear in his saddle bags,,WTF are they hanging off your bike for if you ain't gonna' use 'em!!??!!

No kidding,,that's generally the mentality around this small town and the guys who own bikes.. That's where my prior post came from and that mentality is why I generally ride solo,, Again,,I meant no offense to those who own HD motorcycles..Peace.

GreenDohn, it sounds like you & I would have fun riding together. I got into motorcycling for the riding, not the fashion or status or clubs and whatnot. I love to get out and ride, the curvier/hillier, the better. I likely can't hang with the cruisers or touring bikes on distance, but am good for at least 200 miles of spirited 2 lane road riding most days. I have no wind protection, so that eventually will wear me down as well as my sore rear end. Reminds me...I think I'm going to order and Alaska Sheep Skin seatcover. The last time I didn't ride solo was June of 15.

Harley Guys end up the butt of jokes a lot of times. Some deserve it, many do not. Generally good folks and many actually do Live to Ride...

I just wish they would give way a little less reluctantly for those of us who are riding faster. I swear I thought one guy was going to kill himself trying to stay ahead of me for some reason. It was bad enough that I ended up pulling off for a break so I wouldn't be "pushing" him. Just let me by you man...safely...I'll be out of your sight shortly thereafter.

2011 Road Glide Ultra

 

1984 Electra Glide Classic. I bought this bike new and it now has about 135,000 miles on it.

 

Most of the Harley folks I've had dealings with are squared away. It's all about respect. I rode into the gas station/casino/motel a few years back and there must have been 150 or more patch wearing H/A's there. They were there having a good time no problem at all.

I love to get out and ride, the curvier/hillier, the better. Well said RCBS!

What pipes does he have on it? Yeah, the R's are hefty bikes, but they are a ton of fun. Stabile, fast, easy to ride fast, and pretty comfortable. Plus they sound great.

 

That's usually how I feel about HD riders, but it's different around here. There's a lot of Harley snobs. I've met some really cool people on harleys, but only outside of this state.

They've been getting a bit better off the last couple of years though as far as THAT attitude.

 

Sounds like my kind of riding too, I only ride solo. I REALLY don't get the whole pack riding thing...I'd rather go to the dentist.
