Our Heinz 57 AKA Buddy. The kids got to see him born. Great with the kids when they were young, he'd let them crawl all over him and never growl. He'd stay close when they were in the yard and always let you know with his low bark when someone came in the driveway. Though not overly threatening to strangers, he'd let them know this was his territory and they were being closely monitored. The now grown kids were over today and got to see him one last time. He'd had trouble the last few days with walking and had to be helped outside to go to the bathroom but wasn't in a lot of pain. He went naturally in the living room with my wife and daughter petting him and showing him love til his last breath. He was 16. Best dog in the world.
Sorry to hear about Buddy, Chris. 16 years is a great run. Over time the good memories will shine through and they'll always bring a smile to your face. Your in our prayers tonight.
Tough break man. Sounds like he was a well loved pup. Never easy losing a loved one, and dogs are unconditional in sharing their love. Take care.
Beautiful dog, sorry to hear this, it is hard to lose a family member, a little buddy, after many years of joy. RIP Buddy
Celebrate Buddy's contributions to your family, Chris F Although a tough loss, he went out peacefully, and that is as important as any day in his prime. We're pulling of you Chris
Thanks everyone for the sympathies, it's appreciated. Dave Gunter: You're right, our cats and dogs live a great life here and always have. I have a friend who would come over and tell Buddy to smile and his upper lips would actually curl up and give him a smile, it was funny to see. He's killed and brought home muskrat's, a big beaver and even a fisher once. Got into a porcupine when he was young and he let the wife and I sit on him and pull them out and never got quills again.
Sorry for your loss Chris but it sounds like he went peaceful and with family there. You'll always remember Buddy and they will be good memories.
So sorry for your loss. You know Buddy will never really leave you and he'll always be in your memories.
Just got done burying him in the yard with the wife, daughter and good neighbour. The neighbour would come over and have too much to drink and Buddy would walk her home when she was ready to go. They live about 500 feet away and Buddy would grab on to her cuff and walk her down the road in the pitch black right up to her door. Like I said, best dog in the world.
