Generac 12KW Standby Generator (LP) 13 years old and the motor threw a rod, so it is toast. Going to replace it and I am trying to figure out if my gas line supplies enough LP to run a new 20KW unit. I posted this on another forum and got no good answer, so I figure maybe someone at FHC could help. If this table is correct, it looks like my 1" gas pipe should run a 20kw (200,000 btu), my furnace (90,000 btu) and gas cooktop (45,000 btu). Any disagreement?? But it looks like I will be getting 480,000 btu's from a 1" diameter pipe with a 50 foot run
Agree and you appear to have quite a buffer, also all the appliances will not be running full tilt at the same time Do you have one inch from the service to the generator directly with half-inch feeds to the appliances? That is probably for the mainline and then usually half inch branches to all the appliances
Side note: you might want to consider the Generac 22kw rather than the 20, the larger one is a newer design and burns less propane than the 20. I installed the 22kw propane Generac last year and I am very happy with it.
The 20KW is on sale for 500.00 off, I believe because it is being replaced by the 22KW. Thanks for your input.
so what size is the line supplying the generator now? the 1 inch line is plenty big, depending on the length of run you may have to resize the generator feed
It's 1" feeding the generator...I put in the larger line for the first Genny. Sounds like I should be good. Thanks for your input IP!!
