I spent three days in a cherry picker roping limbs and felling stems. My buddies decided they were going to rent a lift and take down some trees. They have very limited experience and ended up asking me to help. I let one buddy in the lift,once, because he wanted to try the lift. Of course he hit his fence. No damage luckily. Good news is I got to keep the wood from the trees. 1 36" dia Norway maple,. 3 black locust (1 20" dia x 65',. 2 15"x 65'). an 85' ash about 22"dia and a 65' ash about 28" dia. The tall ash was leaning hard to power lines. The other had tons of limbs over the neighbors house. The lift was a 55' lift. Hopefully pics work
I made all your pics full size for ya. Nice job, bud. I mostly climb them, but some jobs we rent a 60' bucket truck. Sure makes some jobs a lot easier.....lol
Yep.....believe it or not I prefer being tied into the tree..... Sometimes the breeze or a sudden move on the joystick makes the bucket wobble......makes your azz pucker up pretty tight...lmao
Lol for real. I'd forget to switch the speed after retracting at speed and lower the the bucket on high. Scared me Everytime. Then the abrupt stop once I realized my mistake. Whoop weeeee
Also noticed haw badly wind-split those big leaders are on the norway. When those trees get that big and get wind-split they can have some catastrophic failures

For sure you can pucker a lot in the buckets but it can be fun too. Many, many moons ago I did some trimming and clearing but not for that long. I much preferred to work in the woods. Now seeing the pictures like these really makes me happy I did not consider doing that for a living in the long run. I do however still kick myself for not staying to work at the mill. I really enjoyed sawing lumber even if it was hard work. Back then we did not have hydraulics for rolling the logs nor did we have computers. It was all done in the head as you were sawing. Sort of fun but you always knew you put in a hard day's work.
It was a lot of fun, adrenaline inducing. If I didn't enjoy my career so much now, I'd start doing tree removal and firewood while getting a degree in the arborist/forestry field. I love running a power saw and being in the woods and taking care of trees and Forrest land. Maybe run a nursery too

It's a good thing your buddies asked for help, that was no job for rookies. Too much potential for bad things to happen close to houses, sheds, fences, & power lines.
