I can personally recommend the Echo 590 Timberwolf ! Got to give more Echo love in this thread ;)
The Echo doesn't offer super crazy power...but is a good steady cutter...one that will start everytime and run reliably .

I got to run a brand new 590 and it really is a great snappier saw for $400 it would make a great firewood saw. That AV is not as smooth as the 6100 but still better then a 029 av or 024 av. Lol

Corey, what would your 6100 be equivalent to in a husky? Is it a pro saw?

I agree fuzz that 590 doesn't get the love it deserves. Quality budget pro saw!

I think the best piece of saw choosing advice I could ever give is try as many saws as you can. Just don't try the 6100 first!:D Trying saws is also a good interview for a good dealer. If he's a good dealer he will let you try befor you buy regardless of brand. In my mind the Stihl 362, husky 562, and Dolmar 6100 are the top three saws in the 60cc class. Where they shake out on that list often comes down to personal preference and budget.

As good as the 6100 is (I own one too!), and the 590. These are not saws I'd strap a 28" bar onto for production firewood usage. I've run a 562 with a 28". It ran it fine. But don't get in a hurry and these saw's are not designed to oil that much bar.

I guess I didn't follow along well enough. Regular 28" use is a 70cc thing. We are talking whole different set of saws then.

I like the dolmars , the only reason that i dont have buy one yet is that the distributor and dealers here are ...................... azzholes

    in the video
you stay too far from the log , stuck your body to the log when bucking , doing this for some hours or days and you will have problem with your back and arms .
dont take me wrong just a friendly advice

That's why I've been saying 6400. It will run a 28 well and it's less $$ than any saw mentioned in this thread except the 590.

Plus the ability to turn it into a 7910 if the itch for more power strikes. I know my 7910 handles a 28" like a boss. That 6400 has the same oiler and would oil a 28" bar really well too.

Yup. There's the obligatory muffler gutting. Then the top end swap if ya needs more power. I have a feeling he'd be pretty satisfied with the stock saw since he was looking at the 465 rancher, but the more I thought about what he was asking the saw to do, the more this particular model stood out.

If you think using 28'' bars dont even think about for theese plastics toys , go and spend a little more money and buy a good 70 cc saw try to find a good dealer that he can help you when you need him its the most importand

One of the first models I thought of was the Jonsered 2166. But we're talking a $300 price gap between that and the Dolmar 6400. Add in robust dealer support and we're talking 2x the (6400) price to pick up a Stihl or Husqvarna 70cc.
