Well what do you do after putting in 10 hours at your real job..... You go cut shagbark hickory in 80 degree sunshine..... My ol wood truck is dead, so I took the shell off my 91 2 wheel drive chevy, and I back in business!!!!'
Here is my play ground, these hickories may look small in pic, but at the base some are bigger than a 25" bar.... Anyway on to pics!!!

Ya I tell ya guys I really got hooked up on this job.... Really close to home, and guy pulled everything out were I can easily get to it.... And to top it off he got all the hardwood out of the mix.... Now I am sure there is more good wood in the big mess of a pile, but I will work on the stuff that's laid out them move to the pile.... I will whittle away until I get it all, one thing I hate is to see a pile just burned!!!:bug:

Wow I tell ya this shagbark hickory will dull even the best filed chain in a hurry.... For me I like to either switch saws or switch chains every tank of gas.... Usually I just use my limb saw, followed by the ms362, and then the ms461 when I get to the big stuff!!!!!

And I also have a question for you guys that cut hickory and other really hard woods.....I use RM chain all the time, but I have 3 loops of RS 20" chain I just recently bought.....now do any of you guys use the RS chain on oak or hickory???......

I do know that the chisel chain cuts faster, but dulls faster, but I didn't know if it would even be worth trying the RS on this shagbark.....The RM chain is working just fine, I have just been anxious to try out the RS chain since I have never used it.....

Ya I have heard that also.....Maybe the RS is better in softer woods, that are clean..... If nothing else I have a job were there is a lot of walnut tops and I can try the RS chain out there....

Yea RS is smokin fast in pine and soft hardwood like maple and poplar. It literally cuts ribbons out.

I haven't used and semi chisel on my big saws but on my small limbing saws I can promise you it lasts longer.

I don't cut a lot of hickory but the little I do I can't remember it dulling that much faster than say white oak?

Since those trees were pushed and maybe in a pile they probably have some dirt on the bark. That makes a huge difference if there is. It doesn't even have to be caked in the bark or anything to dull it fast.

Ya there is some dirt, I believe the bark it the main battle when cutting shagbark..... Yes white oak is some hard stuff too, but I would say shagbark dulls a chain alittle quicker....

I completely agree with ya on the RM chain on smaller saws.... It lasts a long time.... I actually use the RM chain on all my saws..... I got 3 loops of the RS 20" on eBay for a price I couldn't pass up.....so I will be experimenting with the RS chain soon...... Come to think of it I actually had a guy drop off some elm that needs cut to a shorter length, may be good time to try it...
