A few vacation pics

We just got back from vacation out west. We went to the Hoover Dam first, can you believe that the major road through that area went over the dam until 6 years ago when they built a bypass bridge.


Next we went to the Grand Canyon.


Then we hiked in Zion National park. This is Angel's Pass, we didn't climb this one.

This is the best pic I took of Las Vegas, on the plane flying away. We weren't impressed with Las Vegas.

Got a trip to the canyon planned for this summer. The idea was to rent an RV, but don't know if that'll pan out.
Still in the planning stages.
Where'd you stay?

 

We stayed in a cabin right next to the canyon. It was very nice.

 

Hmmm, might be a good option.
What's the name of this place?
We'd probably fly out if we did that......I hate flying.

 

Nice pictures! Issue with Vegas? Never been but always wanted to.

 

I didn't do any of the booking, but there are cabins in the Grand Canyon National Park you can stay in, I think we paid around $130 per night and they are very close to the canyon.

There were people all over the place drinking to excess, plenty of panhandlers and people handing out coupons on every corner.

 

Yeah, that's prettymuch what I would expect. I want to visit there for "the show" so to speak rather than gambling.

I remember the road over the dam from a trip we took there when I was a "bit" younger. Very impressive.

Also we took a tour of the dam...even more impressive!

 

I agree with your comment about Vegas. We just moved from there and my best memory was the view of it in my rear view mirror. Glad you had a good time with the rest of the trip!

 

Nice pictures! Ive only been to Vegas once but had a great time. Im not a fan of cities but enjoyed Vegas for what it is. Im no gambler but playing penny slots and drinking highballs was relaxing. I found the strip to be to young for me but enjoyed Fremont street, much more my crowd if I can call it that. I had a great chat with a fake Ozzy and enjoyed the mob museum but I heard that closed down. Drinking beer in public was a cool novelty. Probably the best part was spending some time with my wife away from the kids and work for a few days.

 

My brother and SIL worked at El Tovar (sp?) and their cabins were also close to the edge of the canyon. Were you anywhere near ET Jack Straw ? Nice pics BTW.

 

I'm not sure where that is, so I'd say no. We were on the south rim.

Drinking beer in public?

They do that at church, here .

 

Just shows how out of touch we are around here. I remember being in Montana on a camping trip and a police officer was chatting up some people who were enjoying a few beers. Later I asked them if he gave them a hard time and was told no they were investigating whether they had seen any dogs on the public beach. You can't even buy a beer at a grocery store or 7-11 out here. It looks like that might be changing soon though

At the northern boundary of Zion there is a little group of cabins on a Bison ranch. It is glorious.....no cell phone service!! My wife and I went there for Valentine's Day weekend before we moved and had the best time. I also enjoyed eating scrambled eggs and bison burgers while looking out over the chicken coops and bison herd. My wife says I am mean, but I would just say ironic.
