    Frank and Beans I thought you nailed it but on second look, the leaf is quite a bit different. If you look at the pictures we posted, you will see the edges of the leaf are toothed rather than smooth. But perhaps there are variants? It sure looks very similar.

    I don't see any pictures of the cherry laurel buds on Google - before they bloom white. So don't know if they are purple?
