There are some of you that have tried quite a few different bigger saws. If you could only pick one what would you choose. I had a 2186 jonsered , I liked everything about it except the weight. just looking for the next thing closest but a little lighter.
If you don't mind hunting one down (and paying a premium for it in nice shape) the Stihl 064 should fit the bill. New saws? Dolmar 7910 would be one if look hard at for 80cc power with 70cc weight.
Used would be fine. Just looking for something for the bigger stuff that I get into which isn't a lot.
For a used saw go to Home Depot rental department and buy one of the rental saws. it will be a makita(dolmar) 6401 or 6421. Take that saw home and order a 85cc piston and cyl kit. for about $125 and gut the muffler a friend up the road bought a HD rental saw for $200 and it only needed a new chain. Had it 2 years now and no problems. Not all Home Depots have a rental area..... I guess you need to be near a major city. I have a 6421, but have not upgraded it yet.... sooner or later it will get the big top end, but it runs great as is.
Used, I'd go the Home Depot - Makita route and upgrade to the OEM 79cc piston (which is what I did), or the aftermarket 85cc piston if you want to save a few bucks. New, probably the Dolmar 7910.
If money is no object a 461. If you want to save money buy a 6400/6401 Makita/Dolmar. Then the p/c upgrade is around $200 and is a straight swap.
I'm guessing the av on the 460 wouldn't be as nice as 361 stihl? Smoother the better. I don't think the Home Depot has any that you can rent. Its been a couple of years since I looked though. Plus I am not very handy like some of you on here. Thanks for the ideas.
You can buy a brand new makita 64cc for $589, shipped. Granted it's not over 70 but it could be easily. Makita DCS642120 Gasoline 20'' 64 cc Chain Saw
Scott at the Cutting Edge in NY was selling them for $545 shipped. These are the older ones if I remember right with no cat muffler.
He had 6400's on the shelf for less than my 6100. Great deal and helluva saw, even before the top-end swap. They run a 20" with extreme authority.
