Who'd ah thunk it?!? Here it is the middle of May in Northern Kentucky and it's 49° cloudy, windy and wet when it should be in the middle 70's! I had to bring some wood up and light the dang stove. Fool weather report says I'll be burning through maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. Just when you think it's safe to put on your swim suit!
No snow yet but we've had hail and rain. Wind is cold for sure. Did not hit 50 today. Average temp for today is 68-46. I fear for the fruit trees tonight.
We are thinking about covering the strawberries but too much to cover the trees. I one time tried to keep frost away from the trees and just burnt up a cord or 2 of wood and the trees got froze anyway.
Lows in the 30s tonight - I may build a fire - supposed to be highs only in the 50s tomorrow and breezy so I may have one tomorrow too. Supposed to be below average temps here all this week but I think all of this rain is supposed to let up a little.
Yep I have a fire in the stove tonight to take the chill out of the house. Plus it will not be so cold in the morning if I warm it up tonight some. I think the high today was 42.
Built a fire at 1800 hrs-41 tonight, 39 tomorrow...I only light up when the low is below 50...next week should be fine, we will have frost and possible snow in some areas of the state for the next 2 days...I'm actually glad it feels like spring instead of going straight from winter to summer as is usually the case-we have had 86 degrees already...I enjoy the 4 seasons in all their glory and wonder...
I've shut down and cleaned and drained the OWB, but with lows in the mid 30's the wife will be after me to fire it back up. Maybe this is a good little time to test out the LP backup heat.
Started back up last night about 9, we had 34º outside this morning, frost advisory tonight. Picked up some tomato and pepper plants yesterday but I know better than to put them in until Memorial day.
Pulled the hanging basket flowers back into the garage last night, then built a fire in the little fireplace stove, another one this morning...
1PM on May 15th and it is snowing like crazy here... big wet flakes and also some of those little round styro-foam bean bag stuffing lookin "flakes"
Snowed several times today and the ground even turned white for a short time. Yes, there is heat in the stove and will be through the night. Supposed to be warmer tomorrow and windy then rain on Tuesday. Then it appears this weather pattern may break and we can go more than 2 days without rain and it will be around 70 before the week is done.
Not liking that snow at all. Hope your plants survive. I haven't set mine out as yet. The greenhouse is busting at the seams. Just now getting the plastic on the hoop house. I'm late this year with that, but I'm at everybody's mercy for getting help. I have some of that white row cover to put over plants. That can give about 10 degrees protection. If you are careful with it, you can use it a couple times before having to replace it.
Hate it when the weather map cuts out anything for Canada. Being located where we are, so much of our cooler weather comes from Canada. If they would show that we would have a better understanding of how long we have to put up with cold fronts etc.
I saw some fresh snow up on the mts. today, the high on the ground was 40 at noon. They're calling for wet snow tonight and tomorrow over the north country. The worst part is yesterday was real sunny and warm, but the black flies were bad.
