Craig's list have become a great venue for buying and selling stuff, and I do a fair amount.

Sadly there are is a downside to it as well.

There are those who will try and pervert things.

Responses to your ad copy such as.

    "I will like to buy"
"I am out of the country and will have my shipper stop by"
"I will send you a cashiers check"

These are a few of the scammer phrases that I see on a regular basis.

Cashiers checks are to be avoided at all costs.

They are no doubt fraudulent and when you try and cash them they will bounce 10 miles and or land you in hot water for trying to negotiate phony checks.

Got a text last night wanting to dicker on my Austroflamm insert.
Shot them a price and the next text back is the cashiers check and shipper will pick it up routine.

I fired back "Cash only and you bring your own truck, NO shippers allowed"

    Never got a response.

NEVER add an accurate address to the Craigs list map thingy.

Just general area is all that's needed (Withing 10 miles)

Scammers are out there waiting to pounce.

Never answer a Craigs list ad alone.
Always take a spouse, buddy or ????

Just some do's and don'ts to stay safe

Craigs can be a great source of good deals, buttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

The scam cues always seem so obvious, but I've read credible claims that scammers don't mind the fact that the scam is transparent to most people, because they don't want to waste their time with anyone not gullible enough to go through with the deal. The forehead-slapping idiocy of their approach is a sorting device.

That is my understanding as well. Misspellings and grammatical errors are part of the plan, to eliminate the folks that aren't going to fall for the scam anyway.

....gun. Never meet at your home if at all possible. I like Walmart parking lots. Usually lots of people around and I know there is video surveillance watching.

Dear Husband drives me a long way every six months to see a certain doc, I drive to town and meet him there, I park across from the police station and it's always just fine when we get back into town.

Kind of hard not to meet at someone's house when it is a pellet stove or futon or other large object. Also, when selling pellet stove or garden tractor, they are coming to my house. Smaller items I have always met at Walmart, Lowes, HD. Met the lady I bought the Focus from at McD's - but she drove it to my house once I decided to buy.

Never had an issue with any transaction. I've only been with another person when I went to pick up my P43 - and the person that accompanied me was a total stranger that volunteered to help off a forum (I'm still extremely grateful to CleanFire ) . I may, or may not, have had any hardware with me at any time I meet up with people

Not saying that the precautions mentioned aren't good ideas though and if possible, those are good rules of thumb.

I made a sale at my house today, and it went well. I never have had any problem with a Craigslist transaction.

FNH 5.7 IS MY sidekick. NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT "Whats in your holster" ???

I have never had issues after someone came to buy, just the clowns looking to try and scam.

There have been issues with folks getting mugged going to places to answer a craigs ad.

This could happen with an ad in the paper too.

Just be safe and aware of wasssssup.

Oregon is pretty liberal with Portland hive choosing what we can do, buttttttttttttt we can own anything we want including NFA stuff.

We don't have any restricted items and magazines are your choice.

My Five Seven has a 20 rounder in it and I carry a 30 in my tack vest.

That allows one to hang in the fight a looooooooooooooooong time.

Still a free State out here.

The refugees from Cali are still trying to make us just like Cali, but so far we been able to keep that BS at arms length.

Over the past couple months, I've seen some nice CL deals. A P43 for $1200, an XXV for $1600, and a P61 for $1000. Also saw a ton of LaCretes go for $200 last week. These all moved real quick, the ads were gone in a matter of days.

Like the deal we scored on 1000 feet of Pergo flooring for $200.

CL can be a great place to shop for sure.
