OK guy my point of view! addiction everyone is treating as a disease it's not a disease it's a choice.. cancer is a disease.. if you can choose not to put it in your body it is a choice. I know if you're addicted it's hard... I get it... I was addicted to nicotine cigarettes? when my nephews came to live with me I quit.. why I have right to kill my body but not a childs.. especially when youngest has asthma and on nebulizer 4 times a day...

pills and such problem here too.. bottom line doctors are giving oxtcotin to people in pain and then they go to heroinew cause it's cheaper... life hurts tell them truth stop trying to manage it and suck it up! rant over..

A bill was before the legislature last fall to have police and EMT's carry Narcan. It was passed but the governor vetoed it. His reason was by providing it all your are doing is continuing the cycle. Eventually the users will have heroin in one hand and narcan in the other. The legislator overrode his veto. So the cycle continues. 256 deaths last year from overdose out of a population of 1.2 million. I would think people would realize that sticking a needle in your arm isn't a good idea.

Heard a radio news article couple weeks ago on NPR that stated the use of the Opioid Fentanyl is responsible for more deaths recently than heroin because addicts are using same dose but the stuff is way more powerful and deadlier than heroin.
    Sad.

Hard drugs I'm totally against for obvious reasons, but marijuana vs those nasty addictive man-made pills with only God knows what in them? Id take the pot grown from the earth ANY DAY givin the choice and that i wouldn't get a random at work. I broke my l2 vertebrae a couple years back and the doc sent me home with a ton of pills Vicoden anti inflammatory pills all sorts. On my check up 2weeks later he was completely blown away i went to work 4days later and said he's treated people with the same breakage that were in the hospital for 3weeks pounding the morphine. I took 2maybe 3pills yes they help with the pain but I'd rather deal with the pain then put that nasty stuff in my body. I broke my back from being drunk and walking straight off a5 foot retaining wall. I earned the pain so i dealt with it.
Back on track with a sidenote:p about marijuana, not a single person has EVER overdosed on marijuana, the illegal terrible big deal drug. Over the counter drugs and even drugs on the shelf however can not claim the same story. Tell me that's not a little messed up. No I'm not a big pot head, I've done it maybe a dozen times in my life. I just think when it comes to pain management or medical use, it should be up to the person dealing with the pain not anyone else.
There's a story about a little girl i think in our neighboring state Minnesota that was having multiple seizures every day even with medications from the pharmacy, her parents heard of the abilities of controlled marijuana doses tried it and her seizures almost completely stopped.
Again I'm totally against meth heroin and those hard drugs. But when it comes to marijuana vs pharmaceutical drugs IMHO there are some very strong points to consider.

    "Rant"over.:D

I am against many things as they pertain to me ..... I am against very few things as they pertain to another persons choice as long as

1 that other takes responsibility for the choices results and
2 that others choice does not infringe on me in a negative way.

I think those two points are a good beginning in the definition of freedom.

So in other words .... If another withes to put a drug filled syringe in their are, an opium filled pipe in their mouth, a grain based brew in their belly, or whatever else their crutch for the day is, expect no carping from me.

On the other hand. When that same person suffers a negative experience from that action .... I expect no carping from them.

Many prohibitions work ..... Murder, robbery, and rape to name a few.

What those that work have in common is there is a definite and easily defined innocent victim.

That is not the case with drugs.

I used to be very anti-pot until I had a couple roommates that smoked daily. The most dangerous thing they ever did while high was pour skittles in ice cream or eat half a jar of mayo while dipping cheese curls in it. We all did way dumber things when drinking than I ever saw anyone do while stoned, so I don't understand why the government is so against marijuana. To me the answer is clear; legalize it, tax it, let people grow it for personal use and in doing so you take a chunk of money and power from drug gangs/cartels.

As to drugs like meth and heroin I'm not sure what the answer is. I don't want it completely legal so my next door neighbor is openly cooking meth in his garage. But at the same time the War On Drugs clearly isn't working, and you could argue its making things worse. You'd think we'd learn from Prohibition in the 20's that making those things completely illegal and throwing law enforcement at the problem doesn't really hurt it's availability at all, and probably gets just as many people killed in violent deaths as would die from overdoses.

Well, that is a bit of a sketch from the most common use of the word "prohibition," which generally refers to forbidding the use of potentially harmful substances.

No identifyible victim = no crime. Therefore, all drug use should be legalized. Not as in "taxed, regulated, etc.", but truly legalized for adults. And the "war on drugs" (sic) should be discontinued immediately, as it causes more harm than good.

I am not a drug user, I rarely even consume alcohol. My only recreational drug use is caffeine.

Actually it is not a stretch. Any criminal act is rooted within a prohibited behavior. If not prohibited it is not criminal.

    01. Probably correct as long as we do not burden society with the personal fallout of an individual's choice. When we use society to treat an individual who employed destructive behavior it behooves us to appropriate the needed money from those who will use the service instead of from society as a whole. Course in practice we tend to misappropriate the fee.

    02. The problem with the "drug war" is that like all do good social programs it grows a group that depends on the jobs that come with servicing the need. Eventually the priorities of the "servers" becomes more important than the need they service. The enforcement / penal institutions are in that position currently.

Some would say that there are "victims" to the latent consequences of addiction. I agree with them. However like any other time a crime is committed the solution is punishment for the criminal act, IE the theft to obtain valuables that are exchanged for a drug rather than the drug use itself. Legalization, if not coupled with onerous and unjustified taxation, would presumably lower drug costs and reduce property crime. Or so one theory goes.

The most serious drug problem we have in this country was created by the big pharmaceutical companies that produce Oxycontin, Percocet, Vicodin, Fentanyl and other synthetic opioid painkillers. A lot of people got started on heroin after being introduced to the high through the legal stuff sitting in mom and pop's medicine cabinet. The heroin epidemic is simply an outgrowth of those legal painkillers. The biggest pushers in this country are traded publicly on Wall Street.

Mom and Pop need to watch over their drug cabinet. That is their responsibility and no one elses.

Possible for sure ... Does not alter responsibility nor does it make them a victim of big pharma.

In any event the Doctor not the maker prescribes.

What makes the drugs a bigger than ever problem is not me thinks big pharma. Rather it is the fact that the drug has migrated from the forgotten inner city to the burbs. From the bottom of society to the middle and beyond. From those outside of society to those who we expect to be the foundation of society.
