Some bedside extenders and a hitch mount carrier could be a good combo for toting saw and wood.

Wasn't mine unfortunately. Pretty nice run tho, brought home two logs to mill and I have no nice way to unload them here. Backed up to a pile of splits, tipped her up, and pulled out from under them. Nice and easy.

    Truck is similar to this.

Good news for you is that they aren't rare. Another one will pop up.

I missed what I thought was a smokin deal on a nice 03 Ford Superduty a couple months ago. It was fairly rust free and low mileage, the only issue was that the engine had a miss (5.4 V8) I figured it likely had a bad ignition coil.
I saw it post on CL about 9:30 PM, told the guy that I'd be there after work the next day (4 PM) he said just FYI, I already have someone that is driving 2 hours to see it around noon tomorrow. Darn! If the truck is as nice as it looks it will be sold before I can get there...and it was.
Fast forward a few weeks, another one pops up for sale that seems like a similar deal...but this one was rust free from Florida, and no engine miss. I end up buying the truck, which needed tires, so I found a set of used, but low mileage Coopers for it. After I bought the tires, it occurred to me that the guys phone # seemed familiar...sure enough, it was the same guy that had the first truck for sale. I text him to tell him that I was the guy that missed the "deal" on his 03 F250...he says, oh yeah, I remember talking to you, and just so you know, the guy that bought that truck called me back later on, he said that miss ended up being a bad cylinder! I'm pretty happy with the truck I ended up with...even though I was pretty hot at the time about missing the first one, like you said, everything happens for a reason.
I took the new truck on its maiden FHC style trip last Saturday...my inlaws just moved to town from about 50 miles away recently and they left behind a pile of CSS firewood at their old place. The new owner wanted it gone (even though the wood stove went with the house :picard:) So I went to pick it up, over a cord...pretty good load for sure, but the Superduty handled it well...that pile would have been 2 loads in my old F150...and a much less "controlled" ride.

Yea I see what you mean and I for damm sure hope I find another "deal".... You know a guy would like to think, well I missed this one for a reason, and it probably had catostraphic failure a week after the guy bought it... Well I have to say first, I dont hope whoever got the truck had problems, I hope it is a god one for them.... Second, I know I missed a good one here......I have a 11 month old little girl and a great woman, so I always feel guilty buying anything anymore.... Well it just so happens, I know I messed up this time.... I just hope I find something good very soon, because I am very over due!!!!!
I am have a regular job, and after my 40 a week job I am totally cover in wood jobs, and I dont have a truck right now.... It's stressing me out and pizzing me off a lot!!!!!

Did you ever approach them with a wad of cash? Don't stress out about this, it's not like it was a custom 0ne-off vehicle, there are others out there.
Real estate agents always warn about falling in love with a property. Same goes for this. I think you did the right thing, just someone needed that truck "right now". It happens, keep looking.
Truthfully, the amount of rust and scale on the frame and springs wasn't a good thing. Our local GM dealer sends owners to us for frame repairs, they won't warrant those. Sometimes we can fix them, sometimes we can't.
    Time to expand your search?

Yea guys I apologize as I probably sounded like a duck last night....we had a busy work week and had graduation yesterday which is a busy azz 10 hour day, then I went home and mowed, had "some" beers and had to make up some mother day pots of flowers for me lady and our moms.... After I was done the guy called me back and told me it was sold, so in reality it just gave me a reason to bitch....so ya I am good with it, my mechanic/farmer buddy has been telling me to get a diesel for a long time so may look in that direction..... He has had great luck with dodge diesels.... Do any of you guys have diesel trucks, any info about them would be much appreciated... I have heard ford diesels have some problems, but I do not know if that's true.... So ya if you guys have any info on diesels I am listening.... My buddy says he never has any problems starting in the cold, which was a concern of mine.... I literally don't know anything about diesels....are parts for diesels more expensive too???

So ya to you guys, and mastermech I just wanted to say I didn't want to sound like a a$$ hole, because everyone on this site has been so helpful to me, i want to keep it that way!!! Thanks a lot guys :salute:

They all do. The Cummins engines do have a pretty good rep though...still can be issues occasionally.
IMO, avoid all chevy diesels except D Max.
Avoid the 6.0 Fords unless it is already "bulletproofed". The rest of the Powerstrokes are good, and the older 6.9 and 7.3 Navistar (International) diesels are reliable, just much lower on horsepower than the turbo stuff.

Shouldn't be an issue if everything is working correctly.

Yup, big time. More expensive to buy, to maintain, and to repair for sure!
The most bang for your truck buck is gonna be a big block gasser like you found...because there are only so many people out there interested in them just because of the fuel mileage

If you like simple machines that are easy to troubleshoot and cheap to repair, stay way the hell away from diesel pickups. Anything "simple" will be well over 10 if not 15+ years old and have all of the problems a gas truck would plus an engine that while extremely capable, would be big $$ to fix. (Maybe this is why your mechanic likes them so much? :p)

And unfortunately, while Dodge may have had the very best of the diesels during the late 90's and early 2000's, the trucks were more prone to problems (especially rust!) than any of the others.

I'd keep looking for either a GM big-block or Ford with the 351W if we're talking about a pre-2000-something wood hauler.

Sounds good guys, and I need to make time to work on my f250 I have know.... I just got frustrated with it.... Just need to fix what wrong with her and use it or sell it one or the other....as I already figured, sounds like I need to keep away from diesels for sure....hopefully another chevy 2500/3500 pops up... Are these Chevy 2500 that have the 6.0 motor anygood????

Yes! The 6.0 is a very reliable workhorse.:dex: Just don't expect much from it for gas mileage. Better than the big-blocks, but not by much.

I should mention that when considering any GM truck from the 1999-2006 era, look for rusty brake/fuel lines and check the rocker panels and cab corners. Many, many of these trucks had early blow-outs of the brake/fuel lines due to rust issues.

Ya I hate to keep bringing it back up lol, but this truck had new brake lines too...:headbang:

I do know of a lady that has over 200,000 on a 2000 Chevy 2500 with the 6.0.... One of these trucks would suit me fine too.... The thing that turns me off with ford is the fact that the spark plugs will come loose and blow out I have had a 99 have this happen... And I was careful anytime I changed them so I didn't mess the threads up.... It was a 5.4 triton motor....

All of the mod motors in those fords had that problem. The V10s were good for it too.

Can't say as they have moved on to a new generation (Coyote) of engines. The 2004-2014? Trucks were notorious for the plugs seizing in the head and breaking off making it quite a project to extract one. But like many things I think it came down to the operator on the wrench as there were/are many happy owners of those trucks.
