So, the young guys showed up about 9am, and got to work backfilling. Half the field was done in about 5 minutes. Now I see why Gasifier (and others) likes his earth moving machinery. If they aren't done by about 10, I'll be surprised. The Health Dept. guy showed up Tues. and had signed off on things, but he left the paperwork under one of the access lid handles.....I took it in the house, since it was due to rain. Anyway, things are almost done.
Took 'em a little longer than an hour.....they finished up about 11. Spent some time with hand rakes smoothing things out, and they just left. Now, thinking about some grass seed. Fall would be a better time to seed.
Well, I mentioned to one of them that it was more firewood, but when they left, he had picked it up with the backhoe and the last I saw it was headed out the driveway. Not a big deal at all. I have plenty of other wood to process, with more on the way soon.
Oh well those rounds will be easier to process. The guy that hauled it away probably thought you wanted to just get rid of it.
Actually, better that he took it. Here's a pic from this afternoon of the whole shebang. Field is just left of center, and the tank is almost directly to the left of the piceenic table about 10 ft.
They did nice work. I'd throw some seed & straw down now depending on soil temps up that way. Question about the size of the leach field - do they determine it based on number of bedrooms? and how many feet/per if so.
I can't recall what the septic guy told me was required down here but he hinted at a pumped system back up over the driveway - that ain't happening, I'll cut trees first My deck rebuild to access the other side of the tank has moved up the list as the remaining white oak has now pushed the deck ~1" out of plumb
He did you a BIG favor by taking that stump/roots away. That would have been a lot of work, dulled chains, bum back or worse. You don't need any of it. save you energy for things you enjoy doing. No sense killing or injuring yourself trying to dispose of some old useless stump. Hope you get some seed and straw on that new ground soon before the rain comes and makes a mess of it and the dogs track in all into the house.
Get something cheap and fast. Contractors mix or landscapers mix. It's just annual ryegrass but it will cover well for this season. Overseed again in the fall (early sept?) with a perennial rye mix and you should be all set for next year!
