Your Dad's turned a wrench or three in his lifetime. And at aerospace quality levels... Wow. Very impressive stuff...
I texted my father, he says it was a Buick Vista Cruiser. His was white with chrome trim. Fun memories for sure!
I suspect the Green River is the one that runs through Seattle (you are old enough to remember the serial killer, right?). My parents never owned cool cars, the closest we got was my father's 1929 Pierce Arrow 7 passenger that he sold when I was 4.
Guido Salvage Oh yeah, I'm old enough to remember the green river killer. I don't know if that's the same river though as the killings in Washington.
Here you go yooperdave , this was my exact model and color, except I had the exterior black vents on the hatchback (that WWW removed for me). Those vents did not work well in heavy snow and no garage. W O W was that a fun car to drive, certain times I didn't even need the clutch if I caught the tach at the right moment! Someday I will find a pic of it from our wedding and how the wedding party decorated it
That is one thing my kids can't complain about, I have had (and still own) a bunch of old vehicles, mostly Studebakers. They include a couple of fire trucks, a 4x4, a bunch of other trucks, 2 GT Hawks and a '64 Avanti. Also had an '86 Nissan 300ZX, a '70 Dodge W-200 4x4 with a 413 4v and a '59 IH B-120 4x4 truck. When they were younger they liked to ride in my rollback truck.
When we were young my father bought an old 1956 GMC pickup truck. Standard of course, two wheel drive. The bed of that truck was made out of a sheet of steel that I swear was about 3/4" thick. One tough old truck. That was how I drove standard first, at a young age. I wish I had a picture of it. Might be able to dig one up some day from my Dad and Mom. Kinda like this.
Hey Guido, here's one my dad had as a teen, looks similar. He said this pic was the exact year and color of his (which I have forgot).
Another vehicle I remember well when I was young was a Pontiac Lemans station wagon. I wouldn't say it was cool. And it turned out it had almost no power in reverse! LOL. The term lemon probably started with these cars! But our family had some good times in that three seat station wagon (the last seat faced toward the rear) on many short trips, a few long trips, and many quick trips out to dairy queen for an ice cream cone!
I had the displeasure of buying a late 1980's Pontiac LeMans. It was a lemon too. It was the first year after remodeling the car and production in Korea, so no reviews on it at that time.
I had a 1970 LeMans Sport, 350 with console, bucket seats and a vinyl top. Paid $75 for it in 1979 and put about 25K on it before the upper control arm bushings went. Pulled the motor and transplanted it into a Firebird.
That is a 1953 K (hardtop) model, the '54's had vertical bars in the side grilles. The '55's had the large chrome grille on the front.
Parents had a beautiful 1956 Desoto, like the first pic, but all white (we lived in Texas so white was as cool as you could get). It had a liquid-filled compass mounted on the dashboard and clear plastic air conditioning ducts coming up from the rear deck. Later when I was in high school, my uncle let me cruise around in his Wildcat (just like the 2nd pic) on some Saturday nights. Girls loved it.
Dad had a 65 mustang coupe. 302 bored .03, 351 winser heads ported, toploader 4 speed, 9 inch with 4.30 gears. He sold it when I was 14, Im still mad.
