While splitting this afternoon my splitter started making some wierd noises like it was possibly running out of gas. Before I could shut it off there was a bang and a cloud of smoke. Atached pics show what splitter and motor is on it and what happened to the motor. I wonder if SpeeCo still has DSC01594.JPG DSC01595.JPG DSC01596.JPG replacement motors for this splitter. It is a vertical shaft motor.

That stinks! As has been mentioned, the Harbor Freight motors aren't that bad and are pretty cheap.

I drained the oil and gas from the engine and brought it in to Farm & Fleet, where I originally bought it. They are going to be putting a 10.5hp B & S on it.
At least this gives me more time to assemble more blocks to split.
After having back surgery once and I am pushing 70 I knew that was not a job I could handle. Have to keep the younger guys in the area employed.

A person has to know his limitations and strive to work smarter not harder. Slow works too:BrianK:
It will be interesting to see how the new engine works when I get it back.

Sounds like you got it all squared away. Nice work! I am guessing that has a direct drive setup to the pump. . Everything just bolt in place?

The manager at F&F said the splitters were designed to either accept Tecumseh or B&S engines. I don't know if he will have to drill new holes for the new engine or not. The pump is mounted directly under the engine.

Tecumseh was bought out by B&S. There was a lot of commonality with briggs at the end of Tecumseh.
