More information on gtg @ Backwoods Savage's place and what we may need.

1. The last count we have is 24 from the forum plus 6 maybes. In addition we have up to 10 neighbors coming.


2. Log splitters. Mine may not be available but HDRock will be bringing one. Pallet Pete may not be able to attend the gtg but is planning on dropping his off here. That is 2. That could be enough but if we can determine what model splitters these are, others have offered to bring theirs and it would be nice to have 3 different models for folks to compare. Of course, Shawn Curry is bringing a splitter too but his is the Mexican type. Manual. (No disrespect to my many Mexican friends.)


3. Bring whatever tools you wish to bring especially if you think someone else may benefit by seeing and/or using that tool. Yes, we'll even let in a Fiskar's if you insist. lol


4. We probably won't need it but just in case, if someone wants to bring an extra chain for pulling logs it might be good. I have a couple though and hopefully that will be enough.


5. Chain saw gas. We do have lead free gas available locally. PM me for location of that.


6. We need to know if you are bringing an RV. I know of 3 right now.


7. Tents are welcome. In addition, we'll be having a 20 x 30 tent set up. There are no side panels on this one but we should be able to use tarps for sides to enclose it for sleeping.

We have some carpeting we can lay down on the ground for sleeping but you may still want an air mattress or something similar.

Bring heavy sleeping bags as it may get a bit chilly at night.


8. For those who want to go in the woods, it may be a good idea to bring some boots as there are a few wet spots. For the main spot of the get-together where there will be chatting, sleeping, bucking wood, milling lumber, spitting, etc, it should be high and dry.


9. Water. We do not plan on buying water. Our water is good for drinking so we'll probably put some gallon jugs in the coolers for people to fill up there along with some ice. So you may want to bring some type of water bottle or thermos for carrying with you. (We were supposed to have a new well drilled before this gtg but the guy just has not showed up yet. So a warning. We have good water but it does take some time for the tank to fill as the water comes a bit slow. (Point is plugged.) So beware of water usage at the house. That is, if showers are taken, we probably can't have one right after another as we have to give the pump some time.)


10. For those coming from the east or SE and coming through Toledo. Beware of a lot of road construction. The best way, especially if coming on the toll road from the east is to get off the toll road onto I-280 to go north. When you get to I-75, taken the SOUTHBOUND road and not the northbound. This will be a short distance on I-75 then you will turn west onto I-475 which will then take you to US-23/US-223 North.


11. For those planning to arrive on Friday, please make a new post on the private conversation to let us know so we can make plans.


12. Food.

What we know we'll have:
Probably 3 different salads (large)
Goulash
Baked beans
Meatballs
Hamburg
Hot dogs
Buns for above
Large veggie platter and dip
Coffee, creamer, sugar
Pop; coke, Faygo red pop, Faygo rock & rye, 7 up, some root beer
Tortilla chips and nacho cheese
Salsa
Pies; probably 6 total and maybe a few others
Cookies (Not sure on this but it seems someone said they will bring some)
Cinnamon rolls

What we need:
Bread
Potato chips
Chocolate cake? Brownies?
Do you have a favorite drink you'd like to share?
Drinks for after the saws are shut down
Any thing else you may think of.

If you plan on bringing any food, please post on the private conversation so others will know and hopefully we won't end up with too much of some things and not enough of others.


13. On those who are undecided, please let us know ASAP if you are coming.


14. Weather forecast looks good! A bit cooler than this weekend but still in 60's and sunny. There may be a couple showers the 2 days before the gtg but that should not have any effect on us.

I believe there is a very short one near the Indiana line but should be no problem. Other than that, all should be clear. Watch for potholes. Also, as you go around Lansing, you can save a couple miles driving by taking Old 27 up to Round Lake road or past that, go to Price road and turn right. Only a short drive back to 127.

There is another shortcut taking M-21 to Ovid and Hollister road north through Elsie and up to M-57. If you go this way, just before Elsie you will see part of the large diary farm, Green Meadows. The largest herd of registered holsteins in the States; maybe in the world. Not sure how many thousands of cows they are milking now but I have heard they plan on adding another thousand or maybe 2 thousand. Big! Also, I went to high school in Elsie and you will pass the old school just a block north of the light.

 

We'll get you set up with no problems. We'll keep the dog closer to the house where no saws will be running unless we take down a couple small limbs. If so, we'll just move him further out for a bit then move him back.

 

At first we thought we'd have a new well before the gtg. The guy said as soon as the frost laws were off he'd come. But he didn't. We figured no new well for the gtg. Then this morning I got a call.


They went 153 feet, which is deep for this area. We figured probably around 50-60 feet we'd have good water. Oh well. Now to get it hooked up tomorrow.

For those who are uncertain about coming, I'll shamelessly post here that my wife will be putting together (2) of her famous peanut butter pies for this...... They are so well whipped and creamy, they're like PB Mousse

Looking forward to this getaway! ! Eric VW is coming Thursday night to my place, so we'll have a few beers and contemplate our route. Gotta make a small detour for Dennis to het some "Goodies"

I am bringing my MS 440, MS 460, Husqvarna 365 Special, and Husqvarna 390xp. I can bring my Husqvarna 372xp (2 piece head and only made to make a few cuts for racing) if someone really has the desire to run such a beast. I will bring it as well... But my 390xp is just as fast and is a work saw. Both are stunningly fast!! lol

Probably just coming with a 24" max bar length. 440 and 365 wearing 20's and 460 and 390 wearing 24's. A few chains, a couple gallons of bar oil, fuel, some files, my Homelite410 sharpening jig, and some small tools.

Driving my car has me limited.. Unless the wife let's me take the Traverse.

 

Will a PB pie, just for Mrs. Dex, seal the deal on the Traverse?

 

It may.... I'll ask!! We can sleep in the back of it!!

 

We'll need to crack the windows if either of us gets into them boiled eggs!

 

That's a no smoking vehicle. Where you can smoke in my car. But she didn't seem to care when I asked.... So we may have a hole to sleep in

 

He told me but I don't remember.... Senior moment. Can't use it until tomorrow. Probably get up early and turn the water on and let it run from the barn to clear out the chlorine. They said to let it run for 6 hours. Then it still has to be tested but I do not think there will be a problem. No shower tonight by hope to have one by noon tomorrow!

 

Now that has Judy getting excited. She wants some of that pie!
