After all the talk about the mild winter and not using as much wood, I thought it would be great to see pics of the leftovers from the wood piles that everyone had planned to burn this winter. I'll start! This pic shows the left over two rows of my best cold weather wood - mainly oak, beech and ash. Back row is about 10' long by 8' high and front row is about half of that. So over a cord of the good stuff left for next year. I also have at least 3-4 weeks of red maple, pine, and white birch in my wood room off my garage, which will get me through the end of the season - so these rows will definitely not be used. Nice to have a good jump on next years wood already in the barn. A lot less hauling next fall. And with these leftovers, the wood I've been processing this week is starting to put me 6 years ahead. Nice! I know a lot of folks are still burning, but post a pic of your leftovers when you burn that last fire! Cheers!
I don't really have leftovers as I stack in a big shed now and just use what is needed. But definitely thought I would use more. Pic shows both sides of the shed. This is what's left in my shed now and have around 10 cord stacked on our property.
I usually burn 4-5 cord and give my father in law 1 1/2 cord. That was down a decent but this year for me. He still burned the same as he uses a fireplace and burns daily anyways in the winter. Since we decided to stay at our house now instead of sell I think I'll be adding a second stove to the other end of the house before next winter so wood usage will go up.
I'll try to remember to take the camera out with me tomorrow when I head to the barn. Normally the barn would be empty by now but we won't burn it all this year. No doubt we'll burn some more but not much.
