Just used it to see if the bath was warm enough to get into. Through tout the day I found out the temp of the cat, my pants, inside my pants, the burner on the range and the new milk vs the old milk.
Yes, that is one of my planned uses. Also on the BBQ, the range top, and the wood stove top for cooking.
Check the food in the cooler when camping...find out that the gasket leaks on the bottom of your freezer...
Can't wait to use it on the wood stove. It ended up being too warm to start a fire. At least that's what the old lady said.
Infrared thermometers can prove their value when switching from a central heating system with forced hot water baseboards to a space heater such as a wood stove especially in a poorly insulated house. When trying to maximize the benefit from wood or pellets, sometimes it helps to close off certain portions of the house. In doing so, it's possible to have pipes freeze in outlying unheated rooms. The infrared thermometer can help one gain data on when it is acceptable to close off rooms (based on indoor and outdoor temps) and when supplemental heat may need to be applied. Big fan of my infrared thermometer as two years ago in the rental, we would let the unused rooms cool off overnight. I knew if it was below 15 degrees outside, I would have to get up at 0300 and turn on the boiler to heat the pipes that had cooled to 34 degrees!!!
Here's a website that shows how properly placed micro electric heaters can help to save money (if you just so happen to be a REAL HOARDER and only collect firewood and refuse to burn any of it! http://www.richsoil.com/electric-heat.jsp Not 100% related to infrared thermometers, but same ball park.
I like to check the temps of peoples heads as they walk around the house... they don't like it It good to check the A\C's too Mine tried to pull that on me last night too..... they just don't get it
I've always been taught to treat a laser like a weapon and not point it at anything I don't intend to shoot.. Is this different with a laser thermometer? Sure. That is a lower powered laser and if it was to cause any damage, it would take a long exposure time. They sell laser pointers that have warning labels on them but no one really understands how dangerous they can be. Don't want to end up like the kid in this article having lost eyesight when screwing around with a laser pointer. Like any weapon or power tool, ALL lasers should be treated with respect.. Bad habit patterns are what get people hurt. http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/health/eye-damage-from-laser-pointers-50696.html
