I got so busy with projects on Saturday that my boiler went out. A quick look at the temps the next 15 days convinced me to shut her down for the year. Spent yesterday cleaning it out (does anyone like cleaning their OWB? I checked the wood pile and only burned 7 cord for the season! Sounds like a lot for such a mild winter, but once I get it going for the season I just run her. Keeping the thermostats at 74 like my wife does doesn't help much either! CB did give me a new controller this year and I think that made a big difference in my efficiency.
Shut my hardy down Monday. I last put wood in it Saturday morning, it was laundry day. I figured when it burnt out I'd shut it down. I only used 2 cords, got to love a mild Arkansas winter.
OWB is still burning here in the mitten, smoldering with temps in the 60's during the day dipping down to the low 30's at night. Once it stays in the 50's at night I will shut it down. Until then I'll continue to throw 2 or 3 splits in a day and call it good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've been tending my old mans OWB the last couple years due to his health. Will be about the same program here. Still needs hot water. Best part is when temps don't get much below 40 at nite ,,, a BIG dry round in the boiler will last a couple days.
Shut down my HOSS at the end of March. Warmer here in north Alabama. I used close to 6 chords. Heating my shop and water heater makes me use more. Started using it early November. Previous two years I used over 7 chords.
Still burning OWB here too. 99 lbs sure does miss the domestic water temp once I pull the fires. Nights are still cool so it'll be a bit yet. Days are in the low 60's!
