    Got my dang middle finger caught in a folding gang box lid. A gust of wind blew as i was shutting the box. Heard a snap and realized my finger was stuck. Yoooowwweee did that hurt! Work wants me to get an xray, i said "just wrap it up please and we'll see tomorrow" . Ya shoulda seen the blood! :bug:

    Yea our nurse said there's a chance i broke the tip of the finger. She said they usually pin it to fix it! :eek: :doh:

    Sure made my butt pucker when I saw that first picture! :bug: :faint:

    Duct tape or that clear Gorilla tape should fix that. Duct tape fixes everything!

    OR, dress it up in something neon so that when you give that one fingered salute, they'd really notice!

    Having been in your shoes not too long ago, it's definitely worth having a physician look at that. An X-ray is not a bad idea, mostly to see if there is any foreign material in there. It doesn't matter much whether the bone is broken or not, when it's that far out on the fingertip (a.k.a. "tuft fracture"), you DON'T need to pin it, just splint. You may need antibiotics, especially if the bone is broken, do avoid a bone infection. You may want a couple of stitches in your nail bed. Medscape: Medscape Access

    You could pin yourself with an 18 ga brad nailer and save a bunch of time:faint:

    x2 on the not needing to be pinned. Broke my left hand middle and ring fingers, just past the last joint. While I can't straighten them out perfectly, it's no big deal, and I have a full grip. I had splints on both for over a month... no surgery, no pins.

    2-3 weeks splinting is usually enough. Heck when I smashed my finger, we just put a fluffy dressing to sort of keep it from moving too much. Don't splint across the joint, it will cause it to stiffen up.
