I pulled up craigslist this morning to check for "free firewood". A listing came up that was minutes away. I contacted the guy and picked up a few loads that he helped load with his tractor! Looks like soft maple, oak, ash and some pine. Started with the truck, second load I grabbed my trailer but it ended up being difficult to move around the drive due to the fresh snow so we finished up with the truck. He invited me to cut some stuff on the ground if I wanted and said he'd contact me the next time he had some wood he wanted picked up. I'll explorer that invite once spring arrives. Could work out to be a good contact. First load: Second load: maybe a pick up bed worth. Third load:
If it wasn't darn near a blizzard things would've been super easy! When spring arrives I'll go back over and see what kind of stuff is on the ground. Should be a cord all said and done. I'll end up with some chunks when I cut everything to length but beggers can't be choosers! Probably the easiest scrouge I've ever had.
Really nice score bud, close to home is always good. Shoot, I forgot about the phone number for the guy I got the log load from I'll send you a p.m.
rdust, that is great being close to home and the guy even helps with his tractor. Definitely treat that man nice. I was surprised to see the temperature went up overnight and our snow was gone before noon today. Then I went in back to see how much water there is and was surprised to see it has gone down a lot. There is one place in the trail that is low and there has been standing water there for a while but I see it is down now. Good because there is an ash fell across the trail. Now I can get that bucked up and get the trail opened again.
