To make you feel young again, do you remember 'party lines'? Do you remember the name of the operator that you had to go through to place a call to someone not on your 'party line'? Do you remember when phones did not have buttons or dials, but some of them had a crank on the side? The good old days
I have sat on the side of the road changing bearings on my little dog trailer and my boat trailer not fun! Have also had the rear seal blow out on a 20+5 tandum dual that was fun in the middle of the night!
A farmer friend of mine used to tease me about carrying a 4" cresent wrench in my pocket. Yes everyday, anywhere, anytime. he'd say what are you going to do with that little thing? then we'd laugh. then the day came when I put his tractor and trailer back on the road in just a few minutes after a hose broke in the cab and drained all the antifreeze out on the floor and ran out the doors...Now he tells the story of what that little wrench can do. its really more about trying to be prepared.
I remember having a reel mower in the rafters of our garage growing up. We'd pull it out every so often and give it a try. It really did cut nice!
Not in my lifetime. I will ask the oldest people I know and see if they remember them ,probably more of a rural thing . I know my grandparents didn't have a phone at all until the late fifties. The only phone I ever used with a crank was a field phone in the military.
We had a 2 party line when I was a kid. I remember picking up the phone and someone else would be on it. 2 party lines didn't need coded ring patterns since they just reversed the polarity. My grandmothers families camp had a 4 or 8 party line. They had a Morse code like chart with the ring patterns. Theirs was marked on it. I'm sure that there were a lot of them tacked up by phones back then.
What's funny is now reel mowers are making a comeback. You can buy new ones at even big box stores now.
wow HD even has one that's California compliant UUmmmm...its a reel mower....how could it not be California compliant?!? ..........
California has no use for lawn mowers.... Their solution is to rip out all of their lawns to save water.
Ah, California! I lived there are few years, when I arrived I though they were all crazy. I really missed it when I left. Lots of variety there - LA is not the same as San Francisco, which is not the same as the Central Valley, which is quite different than Northern CA. A beautiful place, the deserts, the mountains, the seashore, the National Parks, San Francisco, etc. Yep, a little on the "progressive" side in politics sometimes , but lots of people there are not so much. They just want to live their lives in peace and freedom, just like the rest of us.
