I had the day off and was sitting here talking with my pop about grandpa (his pop) and how he loved smoked fish and fishin at bear lake. Next thing I know pop and I were on our way to ludington and bought $100 worth of smoked fish! Got home and already ate two pieces. The rest was immediately vacuum sealed and put away in the freezer. Whitefish, lake trout and salmon! Got it from the same place my grandpa did. It was a fun little trip just me and my pop. Stopped for lunch and then headed home to the pups all sniffin us and the boxes of fish. Unfortunately there went my spending money for the next week... Worth it? You bet.

Joe I can easily relate. Although I don't fish nor smoke any I still enjoy eating many types of smoked fish. And yes, it can drive the dogs wild!

Smokinpiney if you ever get started, you'll no doubt wonder why you didn't find out about this earlier. I'd try some whitefish first. Yummy!!!!

You really need to try a piece of smoked salmon or as already said, whitefish which is my personal favorite... BRB, the fish I left in the fridge is not going to last the week...

A couple months back, a carpenter on a job site brought in some Lake Trout from Superior that he had smoked. Yum!

Yeah, money well spent for memories for you two.

Yum. It's been a while since I've had smoked fish. White fish is awesome. My grandpa taught me to like smoked chubs though.

Smoked chubs is how I got hooked as well. I was hoping they had some at the shop but they didn't. Next time!

Smoked whitefish is still one of my favorite.

I need to smoke some more maple glazed salmon (Indian candy). I have been avoiding making more as it disappears way to quickly

I really feel for some of the folks who don't know what it's like to view nothing but blue to the horizon on a fresh water lake. Some of the best fish you ever ate come out of that water. It really is something you should experience in your lifetime. I take it for granted often as it's just every day to me.

Joe , when you stop and think about it, we have the world's largest freshwater lakes in the Great Lakes.

    You're darn right we do!

If you're ever near lake MI during a storm- go check it out from the shoreline. It's wild! Waves that crash so hard they go OVER the top of a lighthouse that stands three stories high. It's a very humbling experience. I know many a captain who prefer the ocean over Lake MI in the fall. Too unpredictable as to what will happen. These lakes eat boats. No getting them back either... Those waters are deep. 900' at the deepest if I remember correctly.

Then you get stuff like this: *eyes-wide*

Right where I want to be.
I never found out where they got it, but my ex wife's parents would make a trip to northern Mi and bring back smoked Whitefish.
Love the stuff, but haven't had any in a long time.
    Wow, great pic Joe.

The smoked salmon my buddy used to bring back from Michigan was some of the best fish I've ever eaten.
