Alright one last one (I really don't mind showing off my house, its my first and my last hopefully ;) ) So there's a babbling brook off the front that you can barely make out in the 4th pic (for now, major clean up coming) but you can always hear it.
    And a vid to boot

... k enough about me AND GET BACK ON TOPIC!

I dug some post worthy pics up...things are in a bit of chaos right now.
1st one is right after we painted, retextured the ceiling, and removed the carpet.

2nd is with some new furniture.

And then a shot of the Mansfield with its new stack. I still haven't finished the wall behind it and now I'm thinking that I'm going to redo the pad.

Hey Madtown, I'd be interested on how the unit performs and how you like it. The Northstar is essentially the same unit as the Quad 7100 we run.

We really like having it raised, makes loading pretty easy, plus a great spot to sit to warm up.

If you take a pic with an iPad or iPhone. Make sure the Home button is on the right (wide screen). This is the way they were meant to take photos. Everything is in "Wide" screen (better viewing experience).

    Looks good!!

If you took that pic with an apple or android device, you need to take it in landscape mode with the home button on the right hand side.

Dave, I LOVE that hearth! Care to share a few details? How many bricks, what you used for the inner structure and how you supported it? What mortar? I'd love to learn more about your build.

Thanks! That's actually my hearth, Dave rotated it for me (I keep taking pics the wrong orientation).

I framed with 2x10 , came out to about 12' centers. Then 2 layers of subfloor screwed together approx every 6- 8 inches. Layer of durock screwed to that.

Ordered a cube of bricks, used around 3/4 of the cube, ended up sawing the bricks for just the platform top in half (there weren't enough clean faced bricks in the cube, most bricks only are clean edged). On the wall I used 4 rows of wall ties (about every foot). Mortar is just regular mason mix.

I had ZERO experience with bricklaying, just picked my buddy's father's brain. My dad cut the bricks and mixed moarter and my wife fed me bricks, took the better part of 4 days for me to finish it. I was really happy with how it came out given my lack of experience, especially with the arch, but my wife just layed out the pattern out on the floor and It ended op working out.

Nice Dutch, thanks so much for the info and sorry for the misname there, I didn't scroll far enough up. So a cube is roughly a ton, you've got quite a bit of weight there. Did you beef up the floor under the house at all, or are you on slab there, or..?

It's right over the beam in the basement and the home is new construction, the engineer said anything under 4000lbs would be fine, but that worst case if there is ever any sagging I can put a jack post underneath (there's no sagging though).

You must have some experience somewhere, even if it is just brain picking. From what I can see, that is a well planned project and layed out nicely. Very impressive. You and you wife did a professional looking job.
