Looks like somebody already burned it a little bit but then decided to save the rest for later. It's like firewood leftovers! But the big question is, how are you going to reach those splits, when you're seated on the milk crate? Maybe if you turn the splitter vertically, they would be easier to reach. Just sayin... Nice work!
Once burned heat treated.......... Maybe if I turned the splitter vertically my back wouldn't hurt, I do have a milk crate.
Wow, bare ground. We just got another 3" today, jealous I am. Nice looking work Bert. What kind of machine have you got?
Boy would I love to be doing the same but my SI joint is seriously stuck so no splitting until I get my camber and caster settings in specs so I don't prematurely wear out my shoes. Aside from the nagging pain.
Don't do it Bert! Just say no, stretch properly and use the splitter properly...the way it was intended...jus sayin
Love the pics, the work and the tongs bogydave , splitter position, eh, not so much...its just not right I say...I trust this finds you well and on the way to warmer weather-we're down to 28 tonight here with more on cool nights on the way, not unusual for April here though
You must have for he strongest back in WVA I'm sending you a milk crate, or sand Beach chair I remember the days when I could lift the big rounds up to the splitter in the horizontal plane....oh yeah, wait up, that's when I busted rounds with a maul Follow the smileys, Ash!
Don't lift the rounds, unless you have to. Roll them up. But as much as I prefer to split horizontally, when I have a choice for big rounds, vertically is better to get the rounds into more manageable sizes.
It's been in the mid 70's for about a week now, ya never know what kind weather you'll get here in Nevada, I'm at 5300 ft elevation.
^^^ Clearly, there are limits especially when I end up with 200 lb rounds but I just, as long as able, appreciate the upper body workout and feel this adds to my satisfaction of the amount of work we put into this obsession/addiction. Eric VW , thx ole buddy-I'll use the beach chair on the beach and the milk crate for storing kindling...
