Found this one posted on C/L.....562 Husky listed as new never used at more than half off the price of new with an O.B.O.....the cut off catalytic converter next to the saw might spell "I'm Hot"......

It might also be saying "Send cash and I'll ship it to you."

 

I saw that ad a couple of days ago, and completely missed the converter lying next to it.

 

Worst part is, the saw is only about 20 minutes away from me, I'd jump all over it if I didn't feel that it's most likely stolen.......

 

The fact that the ad is still there at that price also smells funny... Even if it is warm somebody (with no conscience ) would have bought it by now.

Eh, that part wouldn't worry me. Lots of annoying but otherwise legitimate CL sellers can't be bothered to take ads down after something sells.

But for me there are too many warnings, "never used", "the low price", "the chopped catalytic converter", the length of time listed...

Common practice by metal scrapper thieves to crawl under vehicles and cut off the cats due to their high scrap value.....

 

OK, that is a new one for me. It is hard to imagine a thief under a car that long and making that much noise.

 

Mostly done at night, and on higher profile vehicles, trucks, buses, ect......

 

I personally knew some people with a pickup that had one cut off in a shopping mall parking lot. Thieves do not care and are not always smart.

 

Please, no one buy that saw. It may have been purchased at my local husky dealer last week with a bad check.....the person who bought it works for a tree service with a druggie reputation.

 

May also be a counterfeit???

 

Well, the saw was hot. It was purchased by the tree service owner's son, who supposedly has a drug issue. The owner has agreed to pay for the saw and any fees that may be levied against the saw dealer once the check bounces. The saw dealer said the tree service owner always pays his bills/expenses with no problems, so he's gonna let it slide and not contact police. Thanks to old 040 for the heads up, it has definitely saved some leg work finding the Craigslist ad before the saw was sold.

 

Well at least it had a happy ending. These things don't usually end that way. Hopefully the son will get help before he gets into any real trouble.

 

Drug addicts come in all different shapes and forms. I feel for the father who is probably helpless to do anything about it. Drugs can make people do some evil things.
At least the shop owner will be taken care of.

 

Too bad he just keeps enabling the problem. The kid knows it, thats for sure.
