Working on a 357xp older saw and its leaking out the vent when you turn it on the side to fuel or cut. Is there a fix to the tank or is a replacement necessary ? JIM
Any cracks around the vent? If cracks then a plastic weld may hold. I suppose vents may leak a bit at times... maybe an issue with the vent/vent screws?
no cracks , The fuel line looks ok, filled with fuel and leaks out the vent at a pretty good rate.There looks like a piece of plastic that's shifted inside.
I can't remember what the vent looked like on the 357? Got a pic? Could you plug it and buy one of the green fuel caps (supposed to be vented caps?)? Read somewhere the green ones were vented themselves.
Might be there's a rubber check valve diaphragm or seal in the cap that deteriorated or ethanol messed it up. New cap is my guess for the fix.
Worse comes to worse, you could make one by drilling another hole in the top of the tank, jamming a piece of fuel line in it (just like the fuel supply line does) and plugging the new vent line with a grub screw.
I just did this one my older Husky 257 . I was able to get the new vent line.....lil filter for the end...and new fuel line ,filter and grommet online . I had to seperate the handle from the crankcase....which sounds scary..but is super easy ! Just had to take the 4 antivibe screws out...unhook the throttle linkage...and it all seperated into 2 pieces ! I replaced the vent hose and filter...because I had the same problem as you did . Fixed it proper...good as new . I figured since it was apart Id replace the fuel line , filter and grommet . Cleaned every thing up under there really good..and Im good as new..at least for now !!
