Was up at the cutting spot again today and was told this was hickory. I've never processed hickory but these rounds seemed fairly light. We dropped about 10 more ash for another day though.. Her are a couple ash I dropped. I don't like doing it almost chest high but they came down perfectly.
Sure looks like Hickory. Pig or mocker nut. The test is to feel the bark with your eyes closed. It should feel real hard and sharp. No corkiness at all. Nothing else feels like it.
I honestly had no clue what you were talking about till I tried it..lol.. I totally understand what you were saying now..
Feeling your wood with your eyes closed? That's a new one to me! Nice pics of gooder btu's Keep adding to the stacks
I personally wouldn't be concerned whether or not your cuts are waist high of ankle high. It's more on how your comfortable. Nice lot of BTU's!
I prefer to cut low. There was old fence line in those trees so I had to go a little higher than I'd like..
As always I topped the load off with ash. I have ash coming out of my ash anymore..lol.. Just waiting to borrow a sitter for what's left..
I have a Bitternut Hickory stand, one easy way of telling that kind of Hickory is that the buds are yellow. I'm pretty sure it's the only Hickory with yellow buds.
