It is shorter than my hay hook but heavier, I really like the extra weight it has to it, comparatively. That's exactly how the tip should be. That little barb holds pretty well. Go give it a swing into a round or split. It might seem strange at first because your hand is in a much different position than if you were swinging a hatchet or similar but you'll get the knack of it pretty quick. There will be pieces that it won't stick to and there will be ones that it sticks to a bit too well, but that it pretty much the same as with pickaroons.
Well, that little sucker works really good, sticks in, holds tight, good weight, less effort swinging it to get it to stick than my hay hook, holds on better too, stuck it into 60-70 pound piece of Oak picked it up no problem. Better grip on the larger wooden handle too. I'm glad I asked before I started grinding on it, I thought that was a defect on the tip
Glad you like it. Now you need another for your other hand. Crochet means hook in french. It is either made or labeled for sale in Canada.
Yep this one was made in Canada , see the maple leaf in pic Well I could use the tongs or one of the hay hooks for the other hand (short one, long one) once I got a grip with the crotchet , we will see just how I use it as I go , it won't replace the hookaroon for some things though
Pulp hooks and hookaroons are definitely different tools, depending on what you are doing one can be much better than the other. Neither is best.
I definitely would have taken that for a manufacturing mistake and ground it to a point...thanks for the info.
