Split all that I have bucked today

I split all the wood I have bucked into rounds today. I also hauled a load home.

I'd say a cord and a half total.

I forgot to take a pic of my stack that's at my buddy's house, aka my staging area where I do my splitting.

Here's the pic of the trailer load I took home. I'll get it stacked tomorrow in my yard.

Mostly all beech, but a little American elm.

 

Gotta love it when a tree gets to the point where it is ready to stack.
Those look like long splits?

 

Mmmmm yummy - beech and elm together in the wood burner. That sounds like it should work as well as some of nature's other natural combinations: peanut butter & jelly, rice & beans, eggs & sausage, iced tea & lemon etc.
(garlic summer sausage and crackers!)

I have some beech rounds waiting to be split. Weather has made this weekend a bust.

 

Rum & Coke

 

There's a couple that are too long. In hindsight I should've made a cookie out of the couple of rounds that were 21-23 or so inches. The one in the front right to corner is too long for my Quadrafire. There's probably 15 splits or so that are too long. I'll fire up the saw at some point and shorten them.

Now that I think of it, there's probably more hickory in this load than elm, you can see a split with the bark side up in the top front left of the trailer.

Beech and elm does roll off the tounge better than hickory and beech.

This dead standing elm is awesome though. I cut it down this winter, and while I forgot my moisture meter yesterday, upon splitting you could just tell it was dry.

That's one of my favorites, rum and coke.

However, that Jim beam Apple and coke is very tasty.


Now I just need to get into the woods again. I need to get the remainder of a downed sugar maple that has to be brought in under cover this spring yet, a downed decent sized ironwood, the couple of sugar maples I fell this winter, and hopefully the top of the mega widowmaker beech. After that I have a number of dead standing elms - one is 38" dbh , 2 big beech, cherry, and if I have time, a big basswood or 4 that I want to drop to allow more light and room for the hickory, sugar maple, and red oaks to grow.

I could easily be well past the 5 year plan when it's all said and done.

 

I make cookies if I have to ,I'll cut 3-4" off but some times I think it's better not to, like when cuttin my oak that was delivered , had a round that was 24"long , I normally cut to 17" so I just cut it right in half to make 2 12" pieces instead of having a 7" cookie

 

It's all in the stack now.

Looks more like 1.25 cord to me. Maybe it's the tarp throwing me off.

I like my online calculator. I was going to round it up, then I thought rounding down will motivate me more.
