You might be a redneck if….. the boy don't have both oars in the water…. he's about a half a bubble off…… he don't have the sence God gave a pizz ant….. his elevator don't go to the top…... Hey I just wanted to wash the winter road salt off the bottom with plentifull hot water from the wood boiler before I shut her down for the season without laying in the mud.
We're close to having a generation on here that will have no idea where that first line is from!!! They may just think he is a celebrity tv deerhunter!
This is my first Toyota vehicle, and other than that truck frame issue that they seemed to really "step up" and take care of, I don't notice a lot of rotted fender & rockers on them. I sprayed the underside with Fluid Film when I got it in December and just want to do all I can to keep the underside in good shape.
We have a 4th gen 4runner v8. Bought it new in 04. Your Taco shares the same chassis, and most of the same running gear, aside from the body style. This is my wife's 3rd 4runner. No issues with any of them. Solid trucks. Ours has been stone reliable.
The new 3.5 v6 sounds like a really nice motor. I know the chassis is solid. If, when I get a truck, the taco is at the top of my list, along with the f150, and probably the ranger because it might be that long for me. I hope not, but I'm realistic.
It's funny you say that, (about the F-150) I like Ford trucks and heard that the newer 150's were getting pretty good mpg's where the Toyota's, small, light, and little motors were not giving what I would expect when all things were considered compared to a "full size". Well one day we got rained out and I stopped by a Ford dealer. They had a ton of 150's, all with the key IN THE DOOR! I pulled on the drivers door of one of them, it seems the key "spit out" a half in or so. I fiddled with it and pulled the door paddle (I think) again, same thing. Looked around to see who was laughing at me. No one, good. I HATE electrical gizmo's and gadgets. Got in my (2000 3/4 Suburban) truck and never looked back.
The 4.0 v6 in most tacos, while a good motor, is far from efficient. The 4.7 v8 which was optional when we got our current 4runner gets the same mpg as the v6, but has more usable power. All vehicles are getting more advanced with gizmos. That's a good thing, pretty much. I drive a loaded Audi, so I like my doodads. Once you have a heated steering wheel, you will never want to go back.

We have some 2014 f150 at work 4wd. They have a v8 think it's the 5.0. They say like 18 if you dive it life a normal person around The country I drive. Toyota suck on MPG that's their downfall. If your going to buy used don't get an f150 with the triton 5.4 way to many issues out of any gen They made. I wouldn't buy an exposition when we were looking cause of this. The 4.7 in out 2004 sequoia is a dog! It's ok for just driving but hook anything bigger than a small trailer back there and uou know it for sure.
The 5.4 Triton, and the 4.6 Triton v8s are great motors. Spitting a plug is pretty much the worst that can happen. That's an easy and cheap fix, now. The 4.7 is a little underpowered in a sequoia. It's good in the 4runner though. We test drove a new sequoia right before we bought the 4runner. Big difference in power with the weight difference of those 2 vehicles.
I don't call ceramic stuck in the head or dropped in the cylinder an easy fix. I know personally people with the new head design, the one that sticks plugs not ejects them, that had all 8 break off. That's where you get the $1200 plug changes. But yes the motor is basically strong and reliable. A few bad design flaws though. And I would agree that the 4.7 would be way better in the 4runner. Just wish they put a chain in it and not a belt. They got that right on the 5.7.
My 2004 Tundra had the 4.7 motor and it was adequate. My 2015 has the 5.7 and it is a beast! 130 hp more at a cost of 1 mpg (15 vs 16)-I'll take that trade any day-and no timing belt.
Things have come a long way in the past 10 years. My 2014 minivan has more HP than a stock 2004 mustang GT.
