A friend of my dad got a load of wood delivered to our place (not enough room at his) it looks to be a mix of maple, oak and possibly ash? What do you guys think? We don't have much ash around here.

    Could be...
The ash around here has little to no bark and what is on it comes off easily thanks to EAB

You bet your ash that's what it is. Good stuff. All I burned this past winter was a mix of white pine and ash.

Looks like Ash to me as well. Ash was referred to as The Firewood of Kings....it splits easily, seasons fast and has good heat output.

Ain't it about time to get out your saw and splitter and bust your ash?

I don't have much Ash around here either, it's not uncommon. It's just not plentiful, just kind of here and there. In 40 years I've never cut down an ash tree and have only burned a few limbs from tree trimmers. Kind of funny eh, Jon_E says it most of what he burned and he's in VT. Same woods, go figure.

You won't believe how much lighter that stuff gets after 3-4 years of drying.

Same here. I've cut alot of trees over the years and can probably count on one hand the ash trees.

Even tho I am a pellet burner, I still read other theads.
For a while I am trying to figure out how you are burning the remnants from oxidizing wood as well as that section of land as it transitions to water (usually sand).
    Then it hit me.
    They are types of wood.

Better late than never. Yep Ash!

I've got so much ash, thanks to EAB, that at 63 years old I won't live long enough to cut and burn it all. But by thunder I'm gonna try!

Maybe, just maybe they tightened up a little too much with the stitches at the end of your operation?
