I had a very sobering "event" this weekend while splitting wood. It happened in an instant. One second I was cruising along splitting firewood with my hydraulic splitter, then "OUCH" and I see the tip of my left ring finger dangling off a stump and bleeding like snot. Next stop is the ER, "do not pass go, do not collect $200." So obviously I broke the distal bone in my finger and lacerated the crap out of my finger/nailbed. I could not imagine how she did it, but the plastic surgery resident in the ER plucked out the bone fragments and repaired my finger so it looked like a decent facsimile of a real finger. Truly a miracle worker. I'm just grateful for the wake up call.
Ewwe! Than goodness it wasn't the booger picking finger Seriously Mike, I'm glad everything will be ok and happy it's not a whole bunch worse!
Thanks for the support. I really thought I was going to come home with a simple amputation of the tip. It wouldn't have been the end of the world. After all, I'm not running for president, so nobody cares how long my fingers are.
Oh man....rough to look at, but I feel terrible that you got tore up. A "safety in operating" reminder is always good, but never want to see any of us Hoarders hurt! Heal up and rest up mike bayerl
You know now & then we all get a "warning signal" of some sort. I believe to wake up up so that we don't have a really bad incedent, in your case, maybe a few finger tips or worse. I've had my share of mine, blood does get your attention for sure.
Wow Mike! Glad it wasn't something worse. & cut back on the nose pickin. You don't want to accidentally try and use the sore one....
Hope it heals up fast. That looks ugly but could of been worse. Always hate to see things like this to happen.
Better a finger than a whole hand Well next time ya know what not to do Had my 2 fingers smashed up good (not from splitter),had to soak in peroxide to change dressings cuz they would stick Hope ya heal up fast man
She took it off first, then took out the dead bone fragments and soft tissues, sewed up the skin and nail bed, and then, at the very end, she put the nail back in place. Obviously, the nail is dead and all, but apparently, it helps guide the new nail in the right direction. ??? I gave up on Surgery in the mid '90's.
I am thrilled they could save your finger tip!! Dear Father in law has similar on his pinkie finger....
