It was still 70 this am, but OAT was about 20, I think. I made the mistake of installing 5 Maple splits into the stove. My plan for the day was to get the rest of the primer on the walls in the stove room. Mission accomplished, but I'm sweating my b..........utt off. It's 75 in the living room, and has to be 85 in the stove room. Man, this cold water is mighty tasty........... About 42 OAT right now. Supposed to be 49 tomorrow, with a low tonight of 35. I'm sure the house will be quite warm all night. In case I didn't already say this, welcome aboard Log Dog III .
Well outside air temp is 33 and the sun is shining 68 in the house so we are outside burning brush piles watching the ice melt brush while cut and piled 8 months ago is wet and smokey.. Tonight will be a good night everyone got spring fever so throw some pine in IS about 5 sunset and wine on wife's sunset deck.. and Crack bedroom Windows tonight!
I think our low will be about 23 tonight so we'll load the Liberty with Cherry, I'm glad Mrs. Backwoods Savage pushed me toward the five year plan instead of Mr. Backwoods Savage 's three year plan.
High a bit above freezing today, brilliant sunshine. Walked a mile or so with the dog with sweatshirt, hat and scarf: great not to have to wear a jacket. The sun was os warm that even the breeze wasn't unpleasant. I believe we hit 35 this afternoon. The next four days are predicted to be cloudy with snow showers at nice and rain showers during the day. If this past winter is any barometer, nothing will happen. After a coming warm week (highs into the low 40's a few days), the prediction is for another period of cold nights. We'll see. I'd LIKE to stop burning, but there is a good chance I'll need at least one small fire a day into May. My dog ran ahead of me to the gate once today (one of our three walks) and someone in a red pick-up truck tried to "rescue" him. Ugh. I like to let him run off leash but with me when the ground is covered with snow and I don't have to worry about ticks, but every once in a while he sees deer, and then all bets are off. After the experience today, I think he's on leash from now on.... Unfortunately, there has been an active ongoing dog-napping problem in Southeastern Ontario.
Back from snoe shoeing and a feed after that. Just too windy for my tastes to go into the woods; I stayed at the warm up shack. (with the food) Bright sunshine and 50 and the roads are melting. Highways have been clear for some time now.....
Why is it to windy for your tastes? Is it because you're concerned about a tree falling on you? Thats what gets me wigged out around here during real windy days, especially when you hear them creaking and popping! Nothing fancy but heres a picture I snapped today when I was in the woods walking tundra and looking at this springs victims . I came home after that and had to go in to work for a short while. I came home and my wife had started a fire with kindling she split herself! I think Ill keep her.
36º outside 75º inside. I've had a small fire going all day as it has been cloudy and never got much over 45º. I'll load tonight and then it looks like only night fires through this week.
No fire the last couple of nights. It's 44 out now. It's going to get into the high 50s the next couple of days. Our snow we had is all gone and it's a big old slopfest out there.
It's when mother nature does her pruning. Not so much worried about a tree, more so worried about a branch/limb. I was struck by a branch in the early 90's; lost part of a tooth. My brother was not so lucky in the early 80's. Struck by a branch/limb lost a tooth and consciousness for awhile. Came to lying on the ground with his injuries. No one around....lucky he only lost consciousness!
Is this the REAL reason you don't post a pic of yerself? Just kiddin Yoop, I'm sure that was no laughing matter.
Going down to 32 over night here, and after no fire for 2-3 days (I forgot already, must be ready for Spring) I decided to heat up the plaster wall heat sink to carry us into the weekday highs of upper 60-lower 70's this week. Onion grass will be a' sproutin' !!!
I think we stayed above freezing all night, if only by one degree. The rest of the week's lows are also above freezing...not so good for the sap collectors. Rain for tomorrow and Wed. Melting kinda fast as evidenced by puddles on highways in usual lower spots. The el dorado sits idle in a 59f basement now, but the OWB has quite a few more weeks to burn. I can see a fire being lit off now and then just to take the chill out. Hard to believe its almost mid-March already!
Coals left over from pecan, red gum... Will not relight this morning- supposed to get into 60's today! Love that.
temps in the 60-70's this week and next looks like. Stove is burnig out today probably done for the year
33 now. Supposed to hit mid 50's Lots of burners calling the game. I know this weeks weather is just a fluke . We'll get a 2' snowstorm sometime in March or early April and it will be on and off burning for the next 3 months but I do like the wishful thinking !
OAT just about 40 this am, and 70 IAT, but I still loaded 4 small Maple splits.......felt just a little coolness. Almost didn't bother. Burned too low last night, so I'm burning crud off the glass. Should be close to 50 today, so this fire might be all until overnight, but it's only going down to 40, so.................
