So I ran to the city compost site and found this: 2 truck loads all pretty clean and fairly straight! First load I tossed in w/out cutting and they were heavy! Took the back up saw for the second run (to run some fresh fuel through it)! First took about 25 mins, second was about an hour, took some wrestling to dig some of it our to cut. Pretty easy +/- half cord! I think there was some red and white oak, ash, elm, cherry, silver maple and birch.
Once again I'm amazed when I see these post of a nice pile of rounds from the dump. Nothing like that around here and I'm not complaining as I have plenty of wood to cut, just funny to me. I think I've said before, people put little piles out around here, have a sign with a stupid amount on it.
A few tree services use the site as well. Most usually take the good stuff to sell. Once in a while it pays off to check it out. I'm easily 3+ years ahead but it gives me an excuse to get out of the house and play with the saws when I only have an hour or 2!! And I don't have to stack or remove brush. Unless you count restacking after I dig and cut my way through it.
Pennies from heaven. And you saved the dump's grinder from having to chew that stuff up. Darn good deal all around - nice find! And compliments on that big wood stack too.
Thanks! I have almost 6 of those rows, 2 cords per row. All scrounged from CL adds wanted and offered for free, and from the city yard waste site. I have gotten about 3 from the city site alone!
