Never posted on this thread before but I am extremely frustrated with this weather. Its not fit for man nor beast out there today, encroaching on 30 degrees here! and snowing. Yeah I know it sounds spoiled but I am in the south and anything south of 50 degrees is the devils weather. THE DEVIL HIMSELF DID THIS!!! Just this Sunday I was outside in 65+ temps with only 3 layers of clothes. BBQ'ing chicken, blasting the christian rock and enjoying some millers . Snow won't stick and will be gone by noon but still, me no likey.. So I'm burning red oak (added this info to complete the theme of the thread). Its march already for stihls sake, my wood stove should have been in storage since mid january. But the powers (clowns) that be say we will be in the high 70s by tuesday so we will just push through and endure like the settlers that made this great country great! Its almost like our hardships are exactly the same...
Has warmed to -8 F in the past hour. Put one large maple and one normal ironwood split in last night. Still lots of coals from the ironwood, so just put a large maple split in, waiting for the stove to get up to cat temp to shut it down for the morning burn. We are forecast to have a high of 21 F today......cloudy. Beautiful brilliant red sunrise.
Dropped to -5 last overnight. They missed that one, once again. Might be the last day for a fire in the kicker stove as the temps will be in the 30's now.....dang!
27 coal oak and beech I have about 2 weeks of wood in the wood room under normal March weather conditions. I'm close to having enough wood out of the shed to complete my summer project on the shed. Me likes the idea of not handling that wood twice.
It's 28 degrees out so I loaded up the Liberty with Cherry, tonight we'll get back to Beech and Ironwood.
Well, it's starting to snow now with an advisory out! Doesn't take mother nature long to change her mind sometimes, eh?
I really want to thank everyone here for their thoughts and prayers, and offers to help out! Really amazing people here to say the least! Didn't mean to bring down the thread with my health, I'm truly getting better everyday and I fight like hell every minute so I'm not scared anymore. I will beat this and put this all behind me hopefully by early summer. Again, I really thank everyone here, and burn on my friends! It's getting cold here now so I got some red oak and hickory on deck for the weekend.
We had 6 this morning, I loaded up the Liberty with Cherry. Gasifier , watch the forecast on Wednesday night, I'm sure it will change/hope but they're calling for 0.36 inches of ice.
Around 20 this morning and still 70 IAT at 7:11am. Should hit 35 today, and the rest of the week will be warmer, so I'm expecting quite a bit of snow melt. I might actually be able to get out and split some rounds I have in the drive pretty soon. I'm starting to use a little more Maple now, with Oak used in the overnight fires. That should transition to Maple all the time, then gradually move into the 1/2 cord of Pine. I'm very curious how much wood will be left once we have the last fire. This has just been such a strange winter. If you get that ice, zap and Gas, be careful.
up to 38º here and just loaded a grab bag of whatever was close to the stove. 1" of snow, just enough to cover the green. Fought a cold all week and was up at 6:30 and really, really wanted to go run the saw but knowledge won out over brute force so I stayed in.
