Surprised no one has started a thread on this yet as we're getting close to the halfway point....so I figured I'd start one. To be perfectly honest I'm not sure how much I've burned. I'm going to be building a new woodshed in the spring so I decided to empty out the barn (old wood shed). It wasn't stacked well so its hard to say, but it is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.75 - 2.25 cord. This is the least amount of wood I've ever burned in my old smoke dragon. Probably because it was 100% hedge and black locust. I usually burn about 6 cord in a season but may come in under 5 this year and the house has been a couple degrees warmer than usual too.
1/2-3/4 of a cord so far. Burning Ash, Mulberry, and both Locust flavors has kept the usage down here also. I burn about 2 cords for the season usually.
About 1.5 cord across both stoves. Would be more, but the upstairs stove turns into a platform for Christmas decorations the week before Xmas till Jan 1st. The Fireview is definitely less wood hungry than my old smoke dragon, and it's in the main living area so it has now become my primary stove, as opposed to the cellar dweller being my primary.
Shoulder Season wood - 1.8 cord / burned / We have the same amount ready for next year Cherry - 2.44 cord planned for burning this year, I'll have the total burned this weekend / We have 3.05 cord ready for next year. 1.22 cord of Sugar Maple & Beech planned for burning this year, almost .61 of a cord burned. We have the same amount ready for next year. These are not face cord, plenty of wood just waiting it's turn, so if we get in another cold streak we're all set. We also will burn just over 50 bags of pellets.
Close to 2 cord so far. The first month was Pine/Spruce, then some Poplar, then Maple. Been into the Oak for a bit once the real cold hit. For some goofy reason, I only put about 4.333333333 cord in the shed to burn, with an extra 1.5 cord just in case (I'm still hoping to not get into that until next winter-it's all Oak). By spring, I'll be able to get to the field and get some more Pine/Spruce if needed, instead of using up the good stuff. Averaging about 1/2 cord/month so far. Normal is about 2/3 per month. We'll see what the rest of the winter holds in store for us. We "cheated" this winter a little by using the natty gas for about 10 overnights.
Ok, you've made me mad, throw in another .61 of a cord of our gooder wood! I'll cover that this weekend so we can start burning it in February.
I'm at under 2cords. It seems less than I expected; can't tell if it's b/c the winter has been milder or that I'm burning better, thus less amount of wood. Using mostly 2 to 3 yr oak.
2.25 so far, usually go through 4ish. Shoulder season .5 so far. red and white oak, ash and some maple. enjoying the Indian summer right now, using very little wood.
Honestly I have no idea but I may take some calculations this weekend. I know it's warm in here. "Should have half your hay and half your wood at Ground Hog Day"
Not even two cords yet. This past week I have burnt at less than half capacity and have been burning the uglies and shorts during the day. Wood lasts a long time at this pace.
Just shy of 4000#'s for the month of december. Mostly ash and soft maple, getting into more oak and black birch now. Heating oil would have cost me over $700 keeping the house at this temperature. Thats the important number. I gotta look up what november was. I weigh so i know how much to load in the boiler to bring my tanks to full charge. This record will also help me stack fewer cords in future years as i transition to 50% oak and the rest locust and black birch
Believe it or not we are not that much over a cord so far. But hang on guys, looking at next week's forecast, it appears another big time freeze is heading our way and they seem to think it will last until about Groundhog day. Dang it....
I'm over 2.5 cord, of the 4, I had ready for this year. It's been the coldest winter here in 20 years. Been a cold fall too. I will run out this year before the end is in sight. I'm ready for next season already. I will not dip into those stacks. Live with a gas bill for March and April.
I finished moving the first holz hausen from the yard to the porch. It was 8 ft in diameter and about 5 ft tall, so that makes it about 240 cubic feet, or around two cords. There is enough wood on the porch for another week or 10 days, so I should hit the midpoint of the burning season (which is late January if I recall correctly) at the midpoint of the wood supply I planned for this winter. I have another holz hausen ready to burn this year. The first one had a lot of lighter woods, and the next looks like it is mostly oak, so I might not make it through both this year.
