Hard to predict the future but I think the pellet sellers should be as aggressive as they can price wise if oil is still as low as it has been. $280+ pellet prices will not keep anyone in business IMHO. As far as the winter temps go, this year was warmer than average, but not as warm as one would think. Feb was 1.2℉ warmer than normal as of a couple days ago. It just feels so much warmer because it is 14℉ warmer than last Feb. Also, not much snow. Makes us feel better.
Wish I had a nice shed to tuck away pellets I'm seeing on CL and some vendors right now. Pellets R Us are unloading Platinums for $3.98 a bag in Uxbridge, MA while they last, dealer in Newton, NH selling Okie Golds and NEWP's for $200 a ton, performance tire center down the road a bit from me selling Bkackstone's for $200 a ton. Guy in Portland, ME selling off Cubex for $200 a ton. HD finally broke and selling for $199 a ton, as is Lowe's. Read some Aubuchons are doing the same. And to think, the northeast is going to be in the 50's and 60's most of next week. Life is good for buyers these days and may get better the closer Spring gets.
Full stash is priceless. Can almost expect spring price to be a bit more or about the same as sales on the hold over stuff. Most of the sales(sell off's) we are seeing now are on hold overs they want gone. Usually equals the best deals.
LW we have seen that Upton is now bagging the BTUtiful brand and another(Trueheat) that are Wow pellets shipped in bulk. Good bet the B brand won't be seen, But the other 2 should be here for a while. Edit: True Heats might be eagle valley.................
Wow, wasn't aware the prices have been dropping like that in our area, Thanks for the good info there Peterfield. *Gonna let the troops @ work know, re: Cubex - that's a great price for that pellet..
Thanks for posting that JT - good article. Based on $55/per barrel, that would be about $2.55 (+/- .05) / gal. of fuel oil in metro areas, or $2.85 +/- here in the woods of NH. That sounds about right, that was the "break-even" number when I did the numbers here, for our home, last season. Several neighbors favored oil vs. pellets this season, and if oil stays low through 2016-2017, it may be a challenging time ahead for the pellet industry, from what little info. I can gather here.
my oil vs. pellet numbers are closer than that, but i factored in the costs of annual furnace cleaning and a biocide. oil wins in my case by about $100. not a lot of money, all things considered.
LW just curious if you can say, what kind of lower pricing are we talking about here? $5, $25, $50 per ton lower?
I just received a pre buy e-mail from a dealer in northwestern Ct. His 2016 spring price is the same as some 2014 early buy prices form the area.. $239 for decent pellets, $279-289 for the Premium, Hammer and flooring grade pellets. Should I cut and paste here ?????
I got the same email. Don't think there's but one dealer in this area. FYI to the others if you haven't figured out who its from. CT Pellet and the prices should be posted on their site shortly. I would expect BT to have their prices up shortly as well.
Bt had a SALE last week or so, moving leftover inventory. I see they are starting spring sale MARCH 5th. Have to compare prices
