Next week we'll start to really warm up, hopefully it's enough to get rid of the ice so I can start cutting, this Sugar Maple will be first or second on the list. I'll split this back in the woods and then haul it out in the bigger trail back home to stack.
Do I spy a skinny Beech with leaves in that 2nd pic? I'm hoping our snow starts going away soon, so I can start getting out again. After Saturday, things should begin warming here too.
Indeed it does appear we will have a warm up next week and it will be very welcome. Zap, that looks like some super easy cutting! That beech may surprise you and I hope it does. Dave, it right now appears we may be about a cord less than last winter and if so, I'm sure this will be the easiest or very close to the easiest winter we've ever had.
I think this may have been the easiest for us since we moved here. A combination of things has allowed me to use quite a bit less wood. I'm now thinking of splitting a lot more stuff smaller than I've been, simply because I feel I can get by with less heat in some situations.
I have only about 2 weeks worth of wood left in my woodshed, although I've got piles elsewhere in case the weather goes back ugly in late March. I'm going to take advantage of the warm weather to empty the woodshed and reload it now, instead of waiting until September when I usually fill it back up. It'll keep the wood under a roof for an extra six months - which can only be a good thing.
Looking at the temps for our area, I don't think two weeks of wood would be enough but you'll be warmer than us by that time.
I think tomorrow I'll load some saws up and head back in, we'll see how much ice is still left on the hills. The tree pictured is a soft maple, it's on the list.
This past Tuesday night we had 1/4 inch of ice so things are still pretty slick back in the woods. Pic 9901 was a dead Cherry tree that came down, 9903 is some Cherry from a job I did two years ago so I'll get it this spring, 9904 is a west facing hill, not much snow, 9905 is another west facing hill, not much snow on that either 9908 is a Cherry that came down three weeks ago in some high wind gust, 9909 is the sun trying to break through and the last pic is a topped off Maple that's coming down.
