Just got inside. I put my 12 y.o. son and daughter to work with me for about 20 minutes. We brought in about a face cord of nice Ash before the storm hits. Now, added to what we already had, we have enough firewood inside to get us through the next six or seven days. :handshake:

Our temps will be more mild after tonight and tomorrow night. Singles for lows tonight and tomorrow.
The wind, cold, snow you're getting is what we had (same one I think) starting Sunday night but ending Monday afternoon...just the snow ended that is.

Morning all...............woke up to a foot of new snow overnight. Fueling up the operator right now and then the snow moving exercise kicks off. The 30 mph NW wind is not helping but we will deal with it. On a sad note, I had started getting my c/s wood from a young lad locally, who by all who knew him, was a solid, hard working young fellow. A diesel mechanic by trade, he had developed his own small scale trucking/construction/firewood operation locally. Talked to him about 3 weeks ago to order my wood for this year and he told me he had over 100 cords cut and split last year. Told him to bring my wood once the weather straightened up later this spring. Unfortunately, he was killed two nights ago while working in his shop on a friends van. As I understand it, the van was up on a hoist and he was changing the tranny. Apparently something happened to the lift and it gave way. He ended up being crushed under it. He was working alone @ the time. Very sad. He was a he!! of a nice young fella with a huge work ethic. Once again, remember life is short, you never know, enjoy each day to the fullest. Everybody stay warm and safe..................

Good morning, mid 20's with coffee on. The howling winds and rain of yesterday have moved on and the guessers are claiming snow, rain, sleet are moving in late tonight.
I have some wood to split and re-stack in the shed to mix with the "fast wood" I cut last week which was a nice 20" hickory,,,I knew it was past it's prime but this one suckered me after it was no longer frozen,,,it's still better than trying to burn snowballs!!
Hope you folks have a good day.

What a sad story Rotti. Most of us lucky enough to have lived a long while understand how easy it is to get busy doing something and then forget that anything we're lifting or cutting or moving... is only as safe/strong as it's weakest link. Add to that... luck... good and bad. I hope this young man rests in peace and his family will only be able to remember the fun times they spent with him. You're so right... life is short.

Yes, I remember the first time you had hired him and astounded all of us with his progress of the work you had him do at your place.
    Tragic.

    Sad stuff rottiman

While lingering in misery last week during the flu, I got word of a kid younger than me who I once worked with had died from colon cancer, and my wife's friend who was just 37 died in a car accident as well. Makes you think of the small stuff we worry about.

In other news, I'm trying that V8 fusion crap Gasifier ... I still need coffee, but maybe its an afternoon pick me up and just not enough for my morning jump start. I figure I'm like an old truck battery - need lots of cold cranking amps.

Find your favorite flavor. Better for you than Soda. I sometimes mix a can in a glass with ice and water. I like it diluted a little better. And the water is good for you. 25% water and 75% Fushion.

I haven't seen these folks in a while. There was at least twenty of them that passed through the back yard as I am sitting here doing the bills at the desk.
