Got home last night and Lowe's had delivered another 2 tons of Inferno's - this time they placed them where I wanted them :). Covered over the tops with 6 mil plastic before I headed for work last night since we were expecting (and got) downpours.

They will only give one year shots here for cats. She really loves me when I take her to the vet. It's quality time.:picard:

Sorry to hear that Larry. Was that recently, I seem to remember something like this.
My female cat got very lethargic 2 years ago after her shots. After a few days she was fine. The following year, I talked with my vet about it and she said that there was something in the vaccine that she has since removed. I forget exactly what it was for but it was directed more for cats that were boarded.

Currently my orange male tomcat just finished a round of meds for Bartonella. He has tested positive for this twice and the second round of meds is more potent when the first round doesnt clear it up. Hopefully it works since it affects his teeth and gums-he has already lost 3 of his 4 canine teeth. Luckily he is an easier cat to give meds to and the current stuff is in chicken flavor that he seems to be ok with. He doesnt run and hide when I fill the syringe for the oral dose.

we are trying to prepare ourselves for when saatchi passes away.
he's doing well after a real scare 4 years ago when he stopped eating and drinking altogether.
we thought it was the end then. the vet kept him for a while and did IVs and afterward an appetite stimulant.

we never knew exactly what had happened though.
his kidneys are a little weak, but he really does just fine.
we add miralax to his food twice a day because he needs a little help in that dept.

but he's nearly 18 years old now and is actually doing quite well.
we both really hope he just slows down and eventually just goes in his sleep without any major conditions or pain developing.

i can hardly stand to think about him not being with us.

Just finished cleaning up the yard yesterday and this morning more white stuff waiting for me:picard:It never ends, I have to do the traffic cop at the end of the road to the highway for the princess to get out now. She can't see over the snowbanks anymore:jaw: and with the amount of traffic of big trucks she feels uneasy o_O now. I got to remove some snow on the roof of the house as the temps will be rising next Monday on:doh:

The shot was the rabies vacine. Most folks I've talked to now know it is risky to give cats the three year rabies vacine. My cats never go out. I would skip it, but you are required to vaccinate them by state law, and the groomers won't see them without proof of a current vaccination.

The craziness here is the dairy famers don't mind having barn cats. They also don't mind doing other to take care of them. They never get shots, or fixed. The two farms down at the intersection have dead cats laying in the road quite often. When that happens we know there had been a new batch of young cats setting out to see the bigger world. I've written before about the feral cats showing up in our barn. We have one cat, Minn Kota, named after the purring motor she has, and she is well taken care of. We've seen so many cats walking through our fields the last few weeks.

That's the way it normally is here also. I have to bucket the ends of the drive so the wife can see down the road. This year there's been so little snow. This is our third real snow storm. The wife insisted she would drive herself to work as we only had a few inches so far, and I'm not back up to speed yet. I feel better every morning. I sense that the cashier at Lowes, Typhoid Mary, operating the one and only register one morning is my tag team partner. She was so obviously miserable that I wouldn't even take the receipt from her. I understand that no work-no pay may have motivated her to be on duty. Thanks to corporations and their profit first!

    Thanks Lowes!

The rabies shot is for me, KC had the 1 year stuff last year along with a feline distemper booster. The good thing about where we adopted her from is that you get full medical records. Like Ambient, I'm the critter that isn't up to date on his shots. The last time I had a shot it was a tetanus booster. The last time the Boss had a shot it was for the flu and that was the year they messed up and picked the wrong stuff to put in the vaccine, so she wound up in the ER getting a dose of fluids pumped into her and the next several weeks recovering from guess what? Yup, the real old fashioned flu.

I didn't end up in the ER, but had the same experience! They pick three variations of antibodies for the flu shot and it ended up that just one of them was in season. The other two did nothing. So that year I got sick, and since then I've said so what, who needs the flu shot.

I will from now on. :dex:

That was the third time that the boss had the flu after having had the shots and them not working for the version she got but the other two times she didn't end up in the ER. The shots were a job requirement, if you didn't take them you were let go. She worked in a hospital and had direct patient contact.

Never had a flu shot. Never had the flu. Coincidence, I think not :D. Not knocking those that get a shot, you gotta do what is right and best for you, I just have a great immune system that I'm not going to mess with at this point.

I used to get the flu shot randomly, until I had kids. Now I get one every year and so do they. I haven't had the flu since 1999, and I clearly remember it sucked.

Ah yes the bacteria that also causes cat scratch fever in humans and is frequently also accompanied by the one that causes Lyme disease. Carried by ticks and fleas and excreted in their faeces on the poor cat. Who picks it up from there by grooming.
